He waited a few minutes between Miss Dent's sudden disappearance and his quiet departure, but his partner, at least, knew that one had caused the other. James headed outside. If his gut was right, Dalia wasn't the type to find some little room to have to herself. She'd get out into an open space. And sure enough, there she was.
...Apparently attempting to vandalize the mayor's car.
James stayed a fair distance back, just watching her for a moment. He already knew what she could do when she was pissed, and he really wasn't in the mood to be punched again.

He jumped slightly when someone tapped at his window. When he saw who was there... he paled considerably. He got out of the car carefully, trying both not to stare and not to pointedly avoid staring. "H--hello, sir," he managed, more than a little nervous.

"Dalia... needed a ride," he said, trying to straighten up to make himself look at least a bit bigger.

Harvey glanced up. "What're you doing home? What happened?"
Dalia shrugged. "I just-needed to talk to Mom. You know...girl stuff."
Her father looked skeptical as he met her at the bottom of the stairs. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Dad," Dalia took his arm.
"You sound like your mother," Harvey said, "Which means you're not. You haven't been home in ages...ever since you got that apartment and that---boyfriend." He muttered the last word as if it were a curse.
Dalia tensed. "Don't worry. There's no more boyfriend...and I'm going to be starting a new job."
"A new job? What job?" Harvey frowned, taking in what she just said.
"...as soon as I get a new one, I'll let you know," she said, heading for the door.
"You quit your job--you--is this because of that son-of-a-bitch Stephens? Do I have to--"
"Dad," Dalia's voice was pointed. "You don't have to do anything. I'll be fine ( ... )
