It was mid-day. Dalia had taken off from work. She didn't give Andy much of an explanation, other than "I have an appointment." It was the only time she knew for sure her father would be out of the house. With a sigh, she got out of her car and headed up the walk toward her childhood home. It took a few moments, but the door did open. Not until after she'd checked who it was and unlocked the three separate locks on the door. Not as many as she'd had when she and Harvey had an apartment at least.

Nadine smiled when she opened the door. "Dalia."

"Hey, Mom..." She hadn't visited in ages. She could pretend it was a casual trip, but the bags under Dalia's eyes, the wary smile, showed otherwise.

"Hey."

Nadine smiled a little more, first ushering Dalia inside and then, without another word, opening her arms for a hug.

Dalia hugged her mother tightly, not immediately saying anything.
