it was easier when it was just an idea in my head

Despite the sixteen foot tree in the lobby of the hotel, Jo knew that it didn't exactly feel like Christmas just yet. For one, it didn't actually snow in Los Angeles, and Jo really missed that biting cold air when you stepped outside. It was cold, but it wasn't 'freeze your ass off if you didn't dress right for the weather' cold. There were a few wrapped presents under the tree, who knew who they were for or from though, Jo, despite all theories about her, didn't actually like to peek at the presents. She didn't like knowing if they were, or were not, for her, and she didn't like trying to figure out what they contained either.

There was just something mysterious about the holiday, and as long as there wasn't anyone chopping up people, or making sacrifices this year? She'd be fine with the holiday staying relatively calm.

The gift for Sam though was burning a hole in her dresser drawer. Mostly because she wasn't even sure if it was something she could explain right, or well enough. The very fact that she was considering going to Chuck for advice on it, well, it was laughable. So instead she just let it sit in the dresser drawer, where it had been for the past few months. Actually longer than that, since Jo knows exactly when she picked it up and why. She wanted him to have it before, but things happened so fast and then he was locked up in that room, and all she wanted to do was move forward. She knew he felt the same way, so trying to bring it up, it just never felt right.

It needed to be brought up though, because she had that present in her dresser drawer, and the next time she told him to get her a pair of socks forgetting it was in there, she'd have a heart attack. She knew it.

Taking a breath, she pressed her hand to her sternum, feeling that knot in her stomach grow a bit more as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. She looked older, she felt older too, but she knew that there had been a lot going on in the past year, and it wore on all of them.

Opening the drawer, she pulled the box out, her fingernail picking at the tape on the edge, before realizing she was going to rip it. Her fingers closed over it quickly, stopping herself from fidgeting with it so much. It was only two days until Christmas Day, and given the time, technically she knew it was Christmas Eve - Day. That wasn't even a holiday, but it could be close enough.

Keeping it in her hand, she shut the dresser drawer and moved out of the bedroom, downstairs trying to see if she could track Sam down, before she decided against it again and put it away.
