Who: Ninten and Porky
What: Porky decides to pay a visit to Ninten and discuss why he is awesome and Ness is a loser
Where: One of the decks on the SS Haruhi II
When: In the mid-afternoon
Ninten ran to the opposite deck, after finding one deck already occupied by a helicopter. After looking around for Porky momentarily, he remembered hearing about the woman's helicopter. He ran and ran, finally making it and seeing that there was nothing there yet. Sighing, he looked up at the sky. "Maybe he's not coming... I really hope Ness being here wasn't too bad." Even so he stood against one of the railings and looked at his hand, watching the flames come on and off.
Once he'd found the actual ship, it wasn't too hard to hone in on the kid waiting patiently on deck, thanks to the flickering of lights that Porky had to guess were part of the weird ability-switch epidemic going on. He'd personally done his best to avoid contact with anybody, not that he had powers, but he wasn't eager to lose anything else. There would be only one magnificent Porky, and all that. The really good part was that it looked as though the deck by the kid was clear, and no sign of Ness either, so he started to ease the small personal helicopter down.
He could hear a peculiar sound and feel the wind picking up, turning around. So that was Porky's helicopter? And he could fly it! He wasn't exactly sure why, but he found that incredibly awesome and started waving his arms frantically. "Hey! I'm right here! Hi!" Ninten yelled excitedly, no doubt ready to see the friend that he had made. He knew that he was told to be careful around him, but he couldn't be that bad, right?
Of course the kid was there, why did he think Porky was landing? Rolling his eyes, but not long enough to lose control of the helicopter, Porky managed to land it, the rotors slowing obediently after their repairs. He did pause to lick his fingers clean of the potato chips he'd been eating mid-flight and wiped that hand clean in the nice red striped suit he'd worn for the occasion, before leaning out of the door to somewhat less frantically wave back.
"Hey, Ninten!" As the helicopter stopped, the need to shout passed too, and Porky stepped onto the deck of the ship, looking around for a moment while trying not to look suspicious. Was Ness really just going to stand aside...? "It's me, your good friend, Porky!"
Ninten smiled, looking Porky over. He did say he was important, so that would explain both the helicopter AND the suit. He was a little pudgy, but that was okay to him, he wouldn't judge anyone based upon appearance. Usually he'd be able to tell if someone was bad or not just by looking, but there wasn't anything wrong with him, as far as his now normal mind could tell him. "Nice to meet you, Porky!" He looked down at the ship and smiled. "Welcome to the S.S. Haruhi II!" He said, almost as if he were the one who owned the ship.
Porky'd had to take advantage of the situation while it stood, before everyone got themselves sorted out. Somehow he didn't think Ninten would really be that great a friend of his if they met face-to-psychic, but as long as Ninten didn't have those powers, everything was just great. Aside from the possibility of catching himself on fire by accident on Ninten. That might be a problem. "Thanks, it's kind of a small ship, isn't it?" Porky glanced around one more time, just to be sure, before stepping forward again. "I'm not going to shake your hand because of all the power weirdness going on, all right? It's not personal, but I'm not touching anybody until everything gets straightened out."
He laughed. "That's okay, you might burn yourself anyway." He looked down at his hands, knowing that he couldn't do much with them anyway. He remembered almost sticking them in his pockets the previous day but quickly retreating, needing to keep his shorts unburned. He then looked back at the ship. "It's not that small, I've never seen a ship bigger than this!" His mind swirled, did that mean that Porky had a bigger ship than this? This ship was enormous, so if it was kind of small... then Porky's must have been incredibly huge! "Do you have one that's bigger than this?"
"Oh, sure, I've seen tons of ships way bigger than this. This is like a little dinghy. But it's nice for you." Porky balanced his arms behind his head for a moment as if relaxing while considering all those non-existant ships. "Listen, about what that guy was saying about me... you don't believe that, do you, right, Ninten? I mean, I'm a pretty nice person, when you get to know me."
Yup, incredibly awesome to him. Maybe one day he'd get to see one of those ships for himself! But even so, he had to think about his question. "Hm... I don't know. Ness says that if anything, I'll have to see for myself. But you don't seem that bad at all, really!"
"Exactly! You have to judge for yourself! Even if you are the kind of person whose friends live in trash cans, as long as they're clean, I'm willing to be open-minded!" Porky spread his arms wide demonstratively. "So I came here to show you for myself that I'm really, truly, a pretty amazing yet also perfectly normal kid who would be a great friend to have."
Ninten shrugged, always ready to defend his often-picked on best friend. "Loid's a nice guy, he's just nervous around people so he hides in his trash can." He didn't want to get into why Loid always kept his trash can with him or why it was on the ship while he was here, that was a different story altogether. "That's good, I'm always looking to make new friends!" Ninten nodded, the statement almost radiating out of him along with a smile.
"Same here! See, we're very similar kinds of people. It's great that we met." Ninten really did look just like Ness to Porky, and acted a little like him, but younger... it was hard to be positive, though. Maybe just more naive. Or maybe it was the convenient lack of psychic powers. "It's too bad that there's not a lot we can do right now, though, with your hands on fire like that."
"Hm..." Ninten glanced over his burning hands, balling them up and then nodding again. "I can at least give you a tour of the ship! I don't know where Ness is right now so you don't even have to see him!" He thought maybe it would be a bad idea for the two to meet right now, but maybe later on down the road he could make it so Ness trusted Porky again. After all, he seemed trustworthy. He thought, at least. "It may not be that big to you, but it's still pretty big from the inside!"
"Why did you invite that guy onto your ship anyway?" Porky's mood suddenly switched, more aggressive. "I don't want to have to run into him even by accident."
"Well..." He thought about it. Ness seemed nice too, and had been pretty nice when they had met too. "Well, it's because he needed a place to stay and since I was here with Ana and Loid, I thought it would be a good place for him to be too."
"You didn't offer me a chance to stay on your ship. Not that I needed it. The crew I'm with is a million times cooler than this. And the women are prettier." He wasn't really sure about that last part; he wasn't sure Ninten's crew even had women. But Fujiko had to stand up pretty well against any competition. "It'd make more sense for him to go somewhere else so people won't get you confused, since you look so much alike."
"That was because I thought you were already going to the sub! I didn't know you really did want to be on the ship." He didn't talk about the women being prettier. Miss Nami to him was very pretty herself, and even Haruhi was cute. And the other ship didn't have Ana! "I dunno, maybe they'll be able to tell the difference between us anyway! I mean, I wear this, right?" He said, pointing to the neckerchief around his neck. "And I have this!" This time he pointed to his hat. There was a small badge pinned to it, a lightning bolt designed on it.
"Yeah, but it takes a few minutes. I had you confused at first, remember? Otherwise I would have been a lot nicer when we first met. I didn't want to be on this ship anyway, but it's still annoying that now if I come visit my friend I have to risk running into that guy too." Porky crossed his arms and huffed a bit.
"Hm... you're right, but maybe eventually you guys could put aside whatever differences you guys have, right? I mean, it's never too late to say sorry for whatever goes wrong." He was feeling a bit uncomfortable all of a sudden. Where did that good feeling go?
"You're so optimistic. That's what I like about you. Okay, I'll keep that in mind, even if I don't think there's any way, for the sake of my friend Ninten." Porky relaxed and smiled. It wasn't the most convincing smile, but he couldn't help that; the bangs tended to make him look shady no matter what. "Do you want a snack? I brought some. Or can you eat with your hands like that?"
Seeing that Porky was starting to relax, the creepy feeling that had started to wash over Ninten had passed. "Well, you can still try maybe." He smiled, and then nodded. "And yeah, of course I'd like a snack! Hopefully the flames won't do anything to it..."
"I have potato chips. And... some jerky, too." Porky turned to look around the back of the helicopter, momentarily offering a very undignified view despite the suit. He pulled out a bag of each. "Which do you want?" He could be generous, after all.
Ninten noticed and he looked away momentarily, before looking over the snacks. "Hm... jerky!" He didn't know, maybe the grease from the Potato Chips could get on his hands and make things even more uncomfortable for him later.
"I like potato chips better, anyway," Porky announced, before opening the bag of jerky. He held it out at arm's reach, eyeing the hands a bit warily. "... I hope you don't have to be hand-fed now or something."
"Nope! Um..." He reached out and surprisingly didn't burn the jerky at all upon grabbing it, trying to fiddle with the wrapping that was clouded by the flames. "Huh, that's weird. I would have thought that the plastic would have burned..."
"It's convenient, anyway." Porky hadn't hesitated to start into his own food, leaning against the side of the helicopter while using one hand to hold the bag, another to start moving chips. "Otherwise you might starve."
Ninten sat cross-legged on the deck, finally getting the wrapping off and biting into the jerky. "Well... hopefully everything will be back to normal soon." He gulped. "The guy who's powers I have is pretty scary, and I don't want to lose them or mess with them in any way."
"Oh, yeah? Has he been threatening you? I'm just glad I didn't wind up swapping anything with anyone." Porky figured that the people who were caught up in it all had themselves to blame, once it had become obvious that physical contact made the switches, but he kept that to himself and didn't bother wondering about how it started. Who knew how anything happened in a weird world like this, anyway. "You shouldn't let people bully you around like that."
"He hasn't threatened me, just the people who won't give their powers back when we all meet up." Looking up at the sky, he watched the clouds move as he spoke. "He's in the mafia too, so I'd rather not make him mad." He didn't want to get on anyone's bad side around the world, since he really didn't feel like fighting unless it was to protect the ship. Xanxus seemed pretty angry, but not angry enough to hurt him, at least as he thought. "I just wouldn't want them to get mad."
"If the world's already covered with pirates, are the mafia really scarier than that?" Porky glanced up, but seeing nothing worth watching, looked back to Ninten again. "Well, you don't have to worry about anything, anyway. After all, you're my friend, right? He probably wouldn't want to mess with a friend of mine, even if he acts intimidating."
"Some of the pirates I've met are nice, so kind of. Luffy and his friends aren't all that scary... except for maybe their swordsman." He didn't want to bring up the fact that he was afraid of the Marines too, particularly Smoker. It would seem silly to be afraid of the law abiding people but not of the mafia or pirates. "Really? Are you strong too?"
"Nobody is cooler, stronger, or smarter than I am! But, I don't like to show off." Porky answered firmly. "Besides, sometimes it's better to lay low."
He laughed a little at the boasting. It was nice that Porky had so much confidence in himself. "I guess so. But sometimes don't you get the feeling that you want to show people what you can do?" He took a bite of his jerky. "Sometimes, I feel like everyone treats me like I'm just a kid."
"I'll show people what I can do. It'll just take time. I'm patient, too." Porky took a break to clear a little bit of potato chip out of his teeth with a fingernail before continuing. "And if people treat you like you're a kid, then don't act like a kid. I mean, look at how I'm dressed. People'll take me seriously because of that. And because of how I act. Being just a kid can be helpful too, though, if you wanna get away with things, or you don't want too much attention."
Ninten thought about what Porky was saying and thought that it sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Porky DID seem like he was more important than a regular kid, and maybe it was because of the suit. He tried looking for one before for one of the Host Club's parties, but was never able to find one that fit him. He made a note to ask about it later. "So I should start acting more grown up and dress that way too... but be a kid when it's needed?"
"Well, it's up to you. If you want to grow up, you have to act like you've grown up. That includes the clothes. But if you'd rather just be a kid, it's easier. I mean, there's less responsibility that way. And you can dress up however you want." Porky shrugged the question off, not really thinking about it too deeply. This kid wouldn't have any sort of plans that'd be easier to get away with as a kid, or any sort of ambitions that went way beyond his age group, in Porky's view. But it would be nice to see him dress differently from Ness.
He sat and thought about it deeply. He knew that if there was some kind of problem or anything, he'd be told to stay back if he acted like a kid. But if he were a grown up, he'd be able to go on more adventures and do a lot more later on down the road. Yeah, asking for a different change of clothes may be a good idea. But still... he liked being a kid. Maybe he'd have to ask Ana about it. "I'll think about it, maybe I could be both somehow."
"Isn't that called adolescence?" Porky asked rhetorically. He was out of potato chips, and looked over at Ninten's share of jerky a bit jealously.
He shrugged, looking down at his jerky. "Maybe." Taking a few more bites, it was gone and he looked over at Porky. "You really are smart, I'm glad we're having this talk!"
Seeing the jerky vanish, Porky managed a smile in return despite himself. "I told you that I'm smart, didn't I? Well, I'm glad we're having this conversation too. Now you know what kind of person I am, right?"
Ninten nodded. "Yeah! Maybe there was just some misunderstanding that's why Ness doesn't like you that much. You seem like a good person to me, and I can usually tell these things!"
"You're a good judge of people, I can tell that already!" Porky agreed readily, but added, "Even if it is a misunderstanding, Ness and I just naturally don't get along. I'll try to be more open-minded for you, but I can't promise, okay?" It was easy enough to make an offer where he was already assuming he'd fail in the attempt.
"Okay! Thank you for trying at least," Ninten reassured him that it was at least a good thing that he wanted to be open-minded in that case, but hey. He had made a new friend, and that was good enough for the moment as far as he thought.
"That's just the sort of person I am. Well, I don't want to be gone too long, they might miss me." Since he'd been hiding in his room avoiding contact with anyone to keep from catching the switching-disease, that wasn't likely, but it was a good excuse.
"Oh, right!" Ninten stood back up, nodding. "Take care! Feel free to visit anytime!"
"Don't worry! I don't forget about my important friends!" Climbing back into the helicopter, Porky glanced around to see if he had any spare jerky with him for the flight back... no. He turned back to wave again, before starting the rotors up. "See you later!"
"See you!" He waved back with his firey hands. It was fun for what it was, and he had a few questions that he decided to ignore for that moment as he watched Porky leave.
