It had been in the papers everywhere. The musical idol Gackt - a womaniser and more often than not referred to as the sex god of the industry - had been found with another male in an alcohol-fuelled tryst. Even more surprising, he had been submissive and, more than that, it had soon been revealed that he and the man were lovers, soulmates, an almost-legally wedded couple. Of course their marriage was not recognised by the government, but the matching bands on their respective ring fingers had been enough to prove that the singer and his violinist were far, far closer than anyone had previously imagined. Instantly, waves of both support and homophobia swept through Japan's music and film industry, some pledging support for what was obviously a well-established relationship, others cursing it and condemning the very ground on which Gackt had ever stood. It was though the entire entertainment industry had suddenly been thrown into a sort of divide where one was either entirely for or against the newly-discovered union, and while most speculated that the newfound pressure and fascination with this previously-undiscovered facet would fade, some quietly commented that it would take much longer than anyone could actually imagine.
However, amid all of the chaos that now surrounded both Gackt's and You's lives, neither of them had so much as a word for the media, instead more or less sequestering themselves in either Gackt's specious home, You's apartment, or the studio, each preferring to remain out of the storm that was the current state of the media. And so for the days following the discovery of their relationship, both remained silent, invisible to the cameras, and both avoided the television as though it was a deathly illness. The pressure didn't disrupt their lives too much; Gackt hired a few temporary additions to his bodyguards, and You learned to put up with keeping those new additions around to keep himself apart from prying eyes and questioning reporters. Both of them - and even their band, past and current members alike - were largely waiting out the overwhelming tidal wave of scandal that now surrounded them. They were safe in their own new routines, telling the world nothing, but somehow their silence said everything.
Neither of them cared what the world thought, and whatever any onlookers chose to make of it, that was that. There was no tension between the two lovers, no quarrels or anger or even regret. Nothing of the sort even briefly passed between them. They had what they wanted; the world could not change that, even with this recent discovery.
They both knew it and, quickly, came to take it for granted. The paparazzi could come marching to their front doors, people could try to beat their relationship down, reporters could theorise and twist the truth into something ugly, and yet the scandal surrounding it all didn't matter.
Because in the end, they had what mattered the most - not money, not fame, not even talent.
In the end, they had each other.
And no 'scandalous' discovery by the public would change that.
