Ianto smiled as he saw the other man appear from the end of the hallway, standing up straight and pressing off of the wall that he'd been leaning against for the past while. Doctor McCoy had reassured him that he'd be able to catch Sulu soon enough (he'd had him check the work tables to make sure that he wouldn't have to be standing there waiting for hours or anything like that), though he had been waiting for roughly half an hour or so. Enough time to work himself up to be both nervous and excited to see the other man

Immediately, Sulu's hand wrapped around Ianto's, squeezing gently. He wasn't entirely surprised by Ianto's move towards him, but it was still strange enough that he couldn't help but give Ianto a lopsided grin. "Well, you've surprised me," he said with a little laugh. "I didn't expect to find you here - I was going to get changed and call you, actually." He reached over and put in his lock-code out of habit, the door to his cabin sliding open with a soft noise.
Keeping his hand on Ianto's, Sulu led the other man into his cabin, turning to give him that easygoing, slightly perplexed look once more. He was happy to see Ianto, that was for sure, but he couldn't figure out why the other man had been waiting for him outside. "What's the occasion, though? I mean, other than Christmas?" If there was an occasion besides the obvious, that was.
Ianto followed Sulu in, watching the door close behind them absentmindedly, still all but bouncing on his feet. God, how was he even supposed to say this? How could he possibly even do justice to what he had to say to the other man? He wanted to just blurt it out, wanted to just shout it to the skies, but he wanted to be better than that, smoother than that. "I... I have to show you something," he said, trying to keep himself from leaping out of his skin right then and there. He had other gifts, but they were all but forgotten, thanks to the day that he'd had so far

Sulu sat as instructed, watching Ianto as he practically radiated energy and listening to him try to form the words. Ianto wasn't keeping on one train of thought, and it was hard for Sulu to follow along. He wasn't sure if he should be bracing for something or not, though - Ianto seemed happy - ecstatic, even - but Sulu couldn't be sure.
"What took precedence?" he asked, blinking up at Ianto. It said a lot about his mental state that he wasn't able to piece any of this together - the fact that Ianto had showed up outside his door, rather than in it, and that he was so excited, they should be tipping him off. But instead, he just watched Ianto bounce and smiled. "You're acting like you finally got to have caffeine again."
