(Fun fact: Once you've got your master's you'll be stricken from every jury you ever get called up for, because the Courts do not like the idea of sociologists studying juries and sociologists often chomp at the bit to do just that.)

Have you tried posting to fansites? Fireflyfans.net and whedonverse spring to mind off hand, and I'm sure there are others. There's a goofy geek comic called Hijinks Ensue which has a pretty excellent forum, and you might be able to find gaggles of fans of just about everything who might be willing to give you an interview.
