I can understand that you are mad, and I do have friends that are Muslim. They are embarrassed. They are hurt. They are especially hurt because their friends and family (of various faiths) have been been killed by acts of terrorist violence. However, I don't think that it is the entire religion that should be blamed. I also think it is unfair to blame the actions of demented radical groups on those who want to live in peace. It is not as easy as "changing your mind."

this is not a handful of radical groups, this is so much bigger. if islamic leaders condemn these attacks, then things like education systems need to be seriously reexamined. people claim that these few groups are misinterpreting the koran, but that's a buttload of misinterpretation. islam needs to take responsibility and look inwards to realize the root of these problems, not brush them aside and blame it on a few radicals.

As someone who works in international relations, I wish the solution was as easy as you make it out to be. The truth is, these acts have been condemned by Islamic leaders. It is a combination of various social, political, and religious problems that are largely unreported by the major media. I doubt that people are "brushing aside" issues that are killing members of their own community everyday and tarnishing the name of their religions and countries. I can't tell what you're more upset about--the fact that people died, or the fact that you had to move the date of your trip.

right. definitely a lot of mixed emotions on my part, which is something i'm allowing myself. of course i'm angry about deaths (these deaths, especially those of the jewish hostages, aren't abstract concepts to me) and uncertainty, and the safety of my friends who are in india currently, but i'm also really angry about having to cancel my trip. it may seem selfish or immature, but it's kind of a big deal for me and i don't feel like i need to apologize for it.
