Now that the blasted phone has stopped ringing I need to scoot out the door and get some badly needed vittles for my refridgerator. She keeps complaining that she has no interesting foods in her belly and I need to restock her pronto ( Read more... )

Fridges and cupboards are very demanding like that.

*g* Because it's spelled "weird" ;) According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it used to have a 'y' in the middle, which is how we got the 'i' there.

Ah, that explains it. See what I mean?! :o)

I missed that it's one of those rule breakers: "i" before "e" accept after C.
(Like your icon says, "Pesky words!") hee

The rule is: i before e, except after c, or when sounding like a, as in neighbor and weigh.

Excepting for weird, which is weird.

LOL! See there, Mare?!

I did it again in my comment above...should be except like you have, not accept. I'll be glad when rainy season is over but would prefer for this (cuss word) to just go away already and never come back.

I can only remember how to spell "weird" by reminding myself "fish trap plus d." The admittedly screwy thinking behind that: a "weir" is a low dam, which impedes fish migration on streams. Weir+d = weird.

Your grocery list inspired me to make spaghetti tonight, with pork sausage and sweet red peppers. Yum!

I had no idea what a 'weir' was until just now, so that would never help me! When I am normal and not vertiginous my spelling and writing mechanics are excellent. I've been allowed to feel like a idgit for the last year and a half. hee

Re: spaghetti
I was going to make that but I had forgotten that I had two steaks thawed and in need of cooking. I think I will do it anyway and make them tomorrow, anyway, with sauteed onions and peppers. But tonight spaghetti!!
