Oh, I forgot to add that I flat out asked Shaina's doctor is she thought she has Asperger's, and she said yes, but that she wasn't quite ready to make a diagnosis. She said she doesn't want the school system or other people to see her as a diagnosis, and she wants Shaina to be pushed socially and academically to learn new skills ( Read more... )

Not diagnosing her is NOT going to help her academically. She's more than likely going to need special accomadation in regards to her behavior and as sad as it sounds, if that diagnosis and an IEP isn't in place, teachers might just think she's acting out because she's a bad kid/not diciplined (you know people are ignorant) and it can really cause A LOT of issues. I would push for a diagnoses and go from there.

yeah, you're right. She is already being classified as *special needs*, so that's a start. Next time we go in (in 3 weeks I think) I'm going to ask her when she's going to make a formal diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with ADD and dyslexia(thank god for spell checking) and some other issues when I was 20 so before that in school I was called lazy/stupid/bad and so on and so on just because I didnt learn as fast as other kids. And my memory has always been bad so trying to study for tests was hell.So its better to get your kid diagnosed so teachers will know whats going on,that she is not a bad kid.

yeah, that's a good point. At her next appointment I'm going to push for a diagnosis.

I love him he is like my big bro. I have and always have had really bad ADD. I remember all the parent teacher conferences and my teachers telling my parents i need meds and my mom is against meds no clue why it would have made school sooo much easier for me. I had the hardest time ever in school. And to this day i still have a bit of trouble focusing on anything for more then like 15 min i get bored and go into dream land....just space out....i cant sit still i fidgit alot.... iv been in councling for self esteem always thinking i was just stupid. But now that i am older and understand what i have i dont feel so bad. Make sure always let your daughter know she is smart and beautiful! Kids and teachers can be MEAN ( ... )

for some reason little girls with asperger's tend to be a little less angry. I guess it's because they have an easier time expressing their emotions.

I always make sure to tell Shaina how amazing she is, because I feel like most of the day I spend correcting her and disciplining, and I don't want her to feel like I don't like her or that I'm always punishing her. lol.

I agree with the other poster. Not diagnosing her properly means she may not get the right help.

Congrats on the on weight loss!

My ex-boyfriend has Asperger's. It was really important for him/his parents/his doctor/and the school to keep communication open. He was on a special education plan to make sure he got the proper attention and was held to the right standard (not treated like a mentally challenged kid or a kid with behavior problems). This was also really important because he was extremely smart, and if teachers didn't keep on him and make sure he understood what was expected of him, he would have slacked off and not done as well as he did in school. He ended up going to MIT and doing really well there.

I can't wait until I fit until a size 8 again. I have all these tiny clothes in my closet and I just want to put them on every day. Too bad I gained 65 lbs while I was pregnant (omg I'm a cow, I know).
