Summary : A few fluffy milestones in Luke and Sylar's relationship

The first time they held each other it was Winter. With no motel rooms to be had they slept in the car, Luke shivering in the back seat whilst Sylar tied to block out his stuttering breaths. After five minutes his patience snapped. "Luke will you shut up, you have the ability to create microwaves, use your fucking head".

A tiny loaded silence and then a small voice. "It doesn't work. Can't use it like that."

He sounded like he was crying and Sylar felt a little uncomfortable about the lack of a snarky response. He could deal with those, but this sniffling was too... what was that word Luke used? Emo? Sighing he got out of the passenger seat and slammed the door behind him. Wrenching open the back door he climbed in, not making eye contact with the startled teenager who was currently shuffling out of the way hurriedly. "Don't speak, just come here."

Luke looked at his open arms as if they were a bear trap. "Now!" Sylar growled, dragging Luke to him and clutching him, Luke's back to his chest. After a few minutes of shaking Luke relaxed, and wiggled in Sylar's grasp. By the time Luke's hair started to tickle at Sylar's neck, the boy was asleep.

The first time they kissed it was Spring. Sylar told himself it was just to shut the boy up. He had thought that the bird thing he told him about with his Dad was just a distraction technique, but it seemed that the blind allegiance to anyone who'd give him the time of day had actually taught Luke something. The name of every God damn bird in North America. He had acquiesced to the walk in the woods as a compromise after they had spent all day fixing the house up in silence. It would be useful, Sylar thought. Get to know the surrounding woods. Escape routes, that kind of thing.

Luke was bouncing along, his lengthening hair making a pleasant shushing sound as they walked. The light was streaming through the trees and Sylar felt relaxed for the first time in years. "What's the plan?" Luke had said four months ago when Sylar had finally returned for him. For once, Sylar had had no idea. The plan finally made itself clear. They had to live somewhere, and Sylar had found a cabin deep in the woods with only one troublesome resident who was currently at the bottom of the nearby pond.

Sylar grabbed Luke's arm and saw the fear in the boy's eyes as he spun round. He dragged Luke towards him and gripped his head in his hand, pushing their lips together. Luke's mouth opened willingly and they stood, kissing like idiot teenagers as the stray sunbeams warmed them.

The first time they made love it was summer. Sylar had felt himself relaxing more and more in Luke's company. They had worked together for months to make the cabin live-able and Luke had even started planting things. Sylar had ignored his little endeavours until the day they had nothing for dinner and Luke refused to go into the town to shop. "There's no point, we have enough stuff here," he had whined. An hour later there was thick vegetable soup steaming away in a bowl in front of Sylar and he was impressed with Luke for the first time since he'd seen his ability. "I grew it all, we're gonna end up with too much stuff to eat ourselves, I dunno, maybe we could leave it somewhere for someone. Shame to let it rot on the plants."

Later that night, they were kissing on the couch when Sylar looked at his watch and Luke sighed. "It's still early, come on.."

"I thought we might have an early night." Sylar had whispered to him. God,this kid was slow on the uptake sometimes. He had actually had to raise his eyebrows.

Luke was inexperienced and overwhelmed, but Sylar liked that. He liked the noises he made and the way he smiled as Sylar moved in him, actually happy and content. Afterwards they lay in each others arms and Sylar decided to let the freak out that was currently happening in his head be muted until tomorrow. He squeezed Luke and wiggled into the mattress of his bed. Of their bed.

The first time they said 'I love you' it was Winter. Luke knocked gently on the bedroom door and still felt weird about going in when Sylar was silent. He had caught Luke crying and freaked out. He had been part way between tearing up himself and tearing Luke into pieces, yelling about their life and how it was perfect and how Luke was never happy. He hadn't asked why he was upset and Luke had yelled back that he cried sometimes and he didn't know why and that this was exactly why he didn't talk to Sylar about it. The bedroom door had slammed so hard it almost came off its hinges.

"Sylar?"

"Leave me alone." Sylar's eyes were puffy and his cheeks were wet.

Luke ignored him, crawling onto the bed and putting an arm round Sylar's shoulder. "I'm sorry. It's nothing to do with you. I just need to let go sometimes, you know?" He stroked at Sylar's shoulder and he croaked something unintelligible. "What?"

"I said," Sylar sniffed loudly. "I thought you were happy here. I thought we were happy together."

"We are!" Luke straddled him, running a hand through his hair. "I'm happier than I've ever been in my life, but there are still some things from the past that I can't just get over and.. sometimes they all come flooding back to me and I just have to let it out. Sometimes...." Hell, if he was going to say it he may as well just come out with it. "Sometimes I don't feel so secure here, and I get stressed whenever you go out because I don't know if you're coming back, and sometimes when I go out and come back I don't know if you'll be there." The words were flowing out of him now and his lip was starting to wobble. "I wake up in the morning sometimes and I get this awful cold feeling in my stomach because you're not next to me and I don't wanna get out of bed because if I do I might find you gone and then you'll come in and yell at me for being lazy and I feel like I'm gonna cry cause I'm so happy you're there, and that's why I always hug you before I eat breakfast." Luke took a breath and collapsed onto Sylar's chest.

"I'm not going anywhere Luke. This is our life now. You'll never come back and find me gone. I love you Luke."

Luke froze. "You what?"

"I love you. I love you Luke."

Sitting up, Luke looked into Sylar's eyes and wiped his tears with his thumb. Sylar smiled faintly, a little embarrassed probably. Luke kissed him gently, making his way up Sylar's jaw to whisper in his ear. "I love you too."
