I AM THE GAR QUEEN!

PHEAR MAH SKILLZ!

(nom nom nom)

*Translation: We went fishing today and I caught 2 hugemongous gar back to back, and then almost caught 4 more but they slipped the hook on the way in. If (and that's the might big if btw) you can find some decent sized crappie or bluegills, fillet them. We caught a bucketful of them when I was a kid and my mom very graciously filleted them (she also got about 1/2 of the bucket too, with us kids contributing the other 1/2). They are tasty, tasty fish.

Also, that sounds like a lot of fun! I've never been gar fishing before. Congratz on non-skunking!

Also, also, I didn't know you could eat gar.

Yup yup! Once we cleaned them (an adventure in itself), we followed the advice of some old-school cajuns and hacked the filets into mcnugget sized pieces and dropped them in a classic crawfish boil (equal parts water and white vinegar, plus about 2 tsp old bay seasoning), boiled for 5 mins then cut the heat and let it marinate in the warm liquid for a further 30 while I cooked the bass J & Trin caught. Ladled it out and served it with melted butter, and OMFGYUM. It's like a cross between chicken and lobster, but more flavorful. All 4 of us agreed it was tastier than the bass.

All hail the Queen of Gar! *G* That makes you sound like the ruler of some country out of a sci-fi novel.
