Just completed a 2.45 mile run playing Zombies, Run!: collected 27 supplies - pace of 15:52/mi. Fox & I both call BS on the auto-calculated distance/pace. Did 3 intervals at my best speed so far & longer distance than before, and because that sped us up we looped down & back on an extra side street on the way back home. Now it's saying that's a ( Read more... )

Hang in there! I know the feeling -- there are days when I feel like I'm not making any forward progress at all, but when I think back to the beginning of the year, I can measure that progress easily. Just keep trying. :)

cheers,
Phil

I keep reminding myself that even though I haven't lost visible inches or weight, I've doubled both my interval time and length, I've dropped my blood pressure from "really worrisome high even with the strongest meds we have" to "you need to cut your dose in half and keep an eye out for stopping it completely because it's WAY too low", and gone from my doc telling me I have a major Vitamin D deficiency to "holy FUCK you're tan, what happened?"

And you know what? Come the Whatever Apocalypse, if I have to choose between looking like a centerfold but still having my current lack of endurance or vice versa, I will choose looking like a bipedal grub but being able to outrun danger and save my family every time.

Excellent, Mel, excellent.

And according to Me & Gordon --and a FEW others, I'm assuming ;-)
you'd make a fine centerfold as is.

What is "Zombies, Run"?

It's an app that's currently on iPhone/iPod and is about to come out for Android that makes walking or jogging vastly more entertaining. Basically a combined game, fitness tracker, audiobook and LARP. I put more details about it here:

I wouldn't worry.
For some reason as I got older, I found it harder and harder to actually "run", even when I was a ski instructor fergawdsake. (And I WAS in TERRIFIC shape then!)

Except when I go uphill, for some reason. Always break into a run when climbing..

Well I can climb and hike like nobody's bidness, and I can still sprint if I have to, with speed that surprises me..but running for any long distance? Ew. Don't know if I'd hork visibly, but I would be on the inside. Might be a female thing, I donno. Maybe somebody should research it.
