It's funny when non-religious people, and even religious people, use similar phrases, to me anyways as well as something that intrigues me, as all things that have to do with society and how society works etc (this is why I have such a harsh stance on modern hardcore music). lately I'm just getting more and more weirded out that our country is still more or less based on religion even though we try to make it clear that all lifestyles are welcome. Sometimes I try not to say bless you when someone sneezes but it seems rude, and I wish I weren't bound to a religion that way, it's actually pretty scary...
I refuse to say bless you when someone sneezes. It weirds me out when people say it to me, not even really based on the religious grounds, but just because of the ignorance of early medicine from which the habit originated. People don't miss a beat of their heart with they sneeze, so they're not dead, so we don't have to protect them from hell... if I even believed in hell... for serious
im glad you guys agree that its really weird, and ridiculous. here they say "salud" when you sneeze which is like "cheers" or "good health" so maybe ill start saying "good health" or even just salud or gehzuntheit to avoid an awkward phrase, because ryan's right, it seems really awkward/uncomfortable when someone sneezes and nothing is said.
