A Christian View about the Burning of the Quran

Sep 11, 2010 14:39

I agree with most of this:

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." - Mark 12:28-31

Although the pastor of the of the Dove World Outreach Church has decided not burn the Koran the threat of such an act continues.
Someone may think, why would Christians defend the Koran? But that's not at all what this is about. God is Love and where Love is, there is God. His intention to burn the Koran is an act of hate. To follow through will have consequences far beyond the act of burning a book.

Some have pointed to the fact that this action may well fuel outrage and acts of retaliation by Muslim extremists (who represent a very small percentage of the followers of Islam). While this may be a well founded fear, it should not be fear which guides our actions, but rather love, and a desire to follow the will of God. Let us, as Christians, be known for our love for all of God's children.

Global Scope Ministries, a non-denominational international Christian organization, does not endorse the act of burning the Koran. We believe, as disciples of Christ, that we should encourage each other in the Spirit of love for all mankind, refraining from hate or judgment or retaliation. We encourage Christians of all nations to join us and stand in agreement. Let all the glory be to God!!

I think it's really important for people to see that many Christians don't agree with what this particular pastor is doing because he really is giving a bad name to Christians. Not every extremist is necessarily a terrorist. But what this man is doing is blaming/punishing an entire people for the actions of a few. And that is wrong, particularly if he is acting as a Christian man.
