Yeah, but with those spinely arms there's no way Sonic's gonna out shot-put the Itallian Meatball.

(Seriously, Sonic vs Mario in speed, is there's even a contest, 100M dach? That would take sonic what, 1 second? Less?)

Also; the olymic rings? Totally Sonic. I mean, who is always running around collecting rings? Sonic, not mario.
