How interesting! You've contained so much information and character in just a couple of pages. He seems a sad, rundown sort (at least for the time being) but I never felt sorry for him. Was the song at the end a Tom Waits number? From how you described its sound and then the lyrics, I thought it could be one of his.

Sometimes I go to the pub by myself if it's not too crowded. Nice to sit with a beer and a book.^^

Anyway, nice job!

I Very much enjoyed your story. It didn't seem like a short story at all but could rather be turned into a book. At least that's what I feel. You are very good at describing!
