Unless you use Ebay or Craigslist, I highly doubt you'll find a laptop that cheap. Most netbooks (tiny keyboards, no cd/dvd drive) are even more expensive than $250 when refurbished.

I'm not too technically minded, but you're asked for a lot for very little monies XD;;

This is the cheapest I've found ($300) that has pretty much everything you want. I've had good luck with refurbs from Tiger in the past.

This is also a refurb and is cheaper (~$260) BUT has not as great specs and no webcam.

Mmm...I didn't know they were that much. People keep telling me that they got theirs for around $250, so I was assuming that was a good price for them.

I think what drives the cost up is my wanting a cd/dvd player. That seems to be the big difference.

I hate shopping for electronics, lol. Hate hate hate it.

oh you can get netbooks for that price, but you are making concessions and sacrifices for it, and it will probably not last very long as upgrades to internet software will likely outpace what your laptop can handle say 4 years down the road.

Thats a netbook price.
Full laptops will start at 299.

Luckily the things you listed are standard on any laptop these days. Watch frys, they have great deals; just they sell out fast.

Netbooks are out of the question as none of them come with optical drives built in. Also, used laptops seem to be what you'd need to go for. I got my Gateway laptop for $200 from a coworker when he sold it to me. Its a few years old, but does what I need. I'd recommend upping your budget to around 500 and getting a good new laptop. Sure you might have to save a while longer, but it'll be worth it and you'll be happier in the end.

*nods* Yeah...I think what I will do is save up another few months and get the better machine. I've waited this long, waiting longer isn't going to hurt me. And I'll just have to ask you to help me find a good one. :P Computer know it all that you are, haha.

I am also a huge fan of Newegg.com

I got my monster Asus laptop from them 4 years ago. The thing is a beast and I love it.

although I am in the market for a quad core... someday I'll have some money to spare
