The Attenbury Emeralds

I've recently learned of the forthcoming publication of The Attenbury Emeralds by Jill Paton Walsh, and I was kind of curious as to what others thought of this.

I liked both books, myself, and have actually reread Presumption more than once. Then again, I read a ton of fanfic, and can easily slide into that mode. I didn't expect a perfect Sayers "voice", so that wasn't a problem. And I liked how she wove in what little we know about the wartime Wimseys from the letters.

I'll buy the new one, no question.

Let me just add that Edward Petherbridge appears to have done the audio book!

Thrones, Dominations had a few good bits in it, but overall I found it, and especially Presumption, not worth the time or money.

I thought the definitive story of the Attenbury emeralds had been written: http://www.quillsandink.com/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=1048
I at least intend to continue to view this story as canon!

Disclaimer: I am a glutton, and I should know to stop at the end of Busman's Honeymoon in perfect satisfaction. Reading JPW is like eating some average chocolate at the end of a perfect dessert. I should know better, I feel cheaper for reading it, and yet I feel compelled.

I read Thrones, Dominations because the first few chapters were actually written by Sayers, and they're definitely worth the read, but there's a definite shift in voice where Sayers ends and JPW begins, and the spark goes out of it then. It's a bit like the difference between a nice new block of real cheese versus a can of cheese-wiz. It'll only ever be a pale imitation, but if you're hungry enough, you give it a try! ;-D
