I got to see a sea turtle (may have been leatherback -- it's been years, I'm hazy on the details) when diving in Mexico, and it was amazing -- like your turtle, it was calm and seemed to be curious about the humans swimming around it, rather than frightened or wary.
Sounds like a blast, and I'm glad your blood-underwater story is a mild one with a happy ending!
perhaps turtles are just generally pretty chilled - i'd guess there are so many divers in the Red Sea every year that most of the wildlife's used to strange bubbly things peering at them :)

M and I are good (apart from the post-holiday blues), in the (short) lull between house projects :)
