Three weeks is a lot of time to ask off for. I would at least wait a year. Depending on their allowed vacation days, ask for the remaining time off without pay.

Well I wouldn't be expecting any paid time off. I'm okay with the 3 weeks being unpaid as long as they give it to me. After like 2 months of saving plus my tax refund, I'd have enough to go...would love to go in October or January next year...gah!

I'm not sure if they will let u do 3 weeks but 2 weeks seems more do-able after about a year. Let's hope they let you have vacay days and personal days. my company is cheap and they only give paid time off. aka everything bunched together :/

If you are awesome at your job then I'm sure they will be more willing to let you go on a vacation sooner rather than later

At least a year (like the others said). That way, you can save up, and maybe have a little more stability in your life if this new jobs works out very well. I know it's been a long time, but you've gotta be patient. *hugs*

In the rare chance that I logged into LJ, I see your post!

I would think at least a year if you want a 3 week vacation. 6-10 months would be fine for a week vacation but a week is probably too short to come over to Japan.

A year is a long wait but at least during this year you can save up and even if you spend the money on yourself and something crops up (hopefully not!) you won't have any problems.

Can't wait to see you again!

Yup upaid, but it still depends on the company. Check with your company's HR? Just ask them a general question like when is the earliest you can take unpaid leave and for how long etc. Don't say the reason yet. Some companies don't allow you to take paid or unpaid leave till after 6 months.

True. I'll find out soon enough but I rather wait 'till maybe a month into training before I even bring up a possible leave of absence.
