Can feel that coming but it's still touching and painful

Yeah, I assumed most people would figure it out early on: it was pretty clear Mycroft was lying, and the only other person present at the scene was Sherlock. I actually ended up kind of liking that it turned out that way: I'd like to think that it really hammered home that the facts were easy to put together if one wasn't emotionally connected to the situation in the way that Sherlock was. I've got to admit, I do love some exploration of that sentiment that Sherlock likes to think he doesn't have. Thanks for reading!

Such an interesting take. And yes, it would be Mycroft covering for Sherlock, of course it would.

Thanks. And it seems like it's always Mycroft covering, doesn't it? They have such a interestingly complicated relationship, but there's little doubt that Mycroft loves his little brother.

Oh god, this took hold of my heart and didn't let go!
To see Mycroft protecting Sherlock ... ans Sherlock trying to make all that naught... Simply astonishing, how well-written this was!

Thank you so much! This comment really made me smile. :) And I do love protective Mycroft.

This story was wonderfully beautiful and sad. By the end, I was just chanting along with Mycroft: leave it alone Sherlock, you don't want to know the answer! But at the same time I did want him to have that moment of realization, when he comes to understand how much Mycroft truly has cared for him all along.
