Speechless is good! :) And, honestly, I really just wanted to find a way to get Uther slapped while I was writing this. Actually, I want to slap him during most of the show, too, so it's not like that's such a big change.

I love the confrontation between Uther and Arthur. Loved that Uther threatened Merlin's life if Arthur doesn't accept it. Love the moral dilemma!

Honestly, Uther's character drives me crazy a lot of the time--not in the sense that I don't enjoy the character, because I do, but more in the sense that if he were real, I'd think he was a terrible person. I just can't stand how he cares very much for those things dear to him, but doesn't have much compassion for others (even if their situation is similar to his--for example, loving a child enough to try to use magic to save him or her, which is apparently okay when it's Morgana, but not okay for anyone else). So, given the way I'm trying to come at his character, I think he's a potential source for many ethical dilemmas, which does make for a lot of fun when writing confrontations between him and Arthur. So, all that to say, I'm glad you enjoyed that aspect. :)

Your characterization is spot on, so much so that it feels like a part of the TV show! The tension was palpable between Uther and Arthur, and I was on the edge of my seat! I love the way you write.

Uther's an ass, as Merlin would say; that he would refuse to see reason and logic is a testament to his smallness, nothing more. I do hope that Merlin and Balinor find a way out of Camelot.

Great story! Keep it comin'!

Oh, thank you! :) I certainly agree very much with your assessment of Uther. Pfft, and Merlin thought Arthur was an ass--guess he can see now where he gets it from

What an intense chapter. Uther's so in the wrong, but he holds all the power here. His single mindedness is maddening and wholly in character. Arthur holds no sway and if he's not to lose Merlin, Balinor must be sacrificed. It's terrible.

Uther usually makes me very inclined to want to hit things. This story is no exception.
