My Christmas present this year is an Olympus E-PL1 compact system camera which I love so much and would possibly marry if it were legal. I really want to improve my photography and I've decided to set up a seperate blog at tumblr where I can share some of my snaps.

i kind of wish i had invested in a Olympus E-PL1 instead of my panasonic lumix. i love the little thing but i usually find i'd rather go with the better quality of my SLR over the point & shoot. the olympus pens are so much better

It's funny you should say that because when I initially decided I wanted a new camera I was going to go for a point and shoot, as I already have a Lumix SLR. Once I started looking into the compact systems though I couldn't resist. I almost went for a Lumix G but the PEN was a better price and came very highly recommended.
If it's something you'd be interested in saving up for then I would say it's absolutely worth it, I haven't gotten a grasp on all the features yet but it's been a joy to use so far. It is still quite big but it doesn't feel too heavy and the shoulder strap is a strong, safe way to carry it around without breaking your neck.

point and shoots are good for what they are but i've become quite accustomed to having that little extra control. i hope you and your new camera have fun together ;-)
