“So whose house are you staying at tonight?”

The question makes Matori smile. He answers that they haven’t figured it out yet, but truthfully, he knows. He throws a sideways glance towards the puff of curls a few feet away. Yep. He knows.

Matori waits until Kusumoto is done talking before pouncing. “Yu-ki-to!” he sings, laughing when Kusumoto’s eyes go big, darting around.

“Don’t DO that!”

“Hey. Let me stay at your place tonight?”

Kusumoto gives him a look of annoyance, at least, Matori assumes it’s supposed to be annoyance. It’d be a lot more believable if he couldn’t see the edges of Kusumoto’s mouth curling upwards, obviously pleased. With Kusumoto, it’s always in the action, not the words. “I’ve already housed you every day this week! Haven’t I done enough?”

Well, if that’s how he wants to play it... “Oh. Ok. I’ll go ask Fuuga then,” Matori says and starts to head over to where Yamashita’s packing his bag.

He laughs when Kusumoto grabs his arm before he can take the second step. Smiling victoriously he says, “So I can crash at your house?”

Kusumoto smiles back and Matori has to stop himself from reaching out to touch his cheek. Luckily, Kusumoto turns to dig his phone out from his bag before Matori can do anything that would just embarrass them both. “Lemme call my mom to warn her... but I bet she’s expecting you already.”

They ride the train quietly and have to stand, but it’s only a few stops, so it doesn’t matter much. Matori pokes at the hat Kusumoto’s wearing, enjoying the way Kusumoto swats his hand away every time. The hat is obviously an attempt at hiding his mass of curls, but Matori doesn’t really see the point. The two of them stand out just the same. Matori looks down at his bright pink shirt and the multicolored backpack sitting at his feet before sweeping a glance over the rest of the people in the train. At this hour, it’s mostly salary men and office ladies on their way home from another long day at work. Looking down at himself again, he just nods. They definitely stand out anyway.

Kusumoto-san is waiting for them in the entryway when they arrive at Kusumoto’s house, ready to usher them into the dining room so that she can properly feed them. She sits with them and asks about their days as they shovel food into their mouths. Matori really doesn’t want her to know that they’d eaten fast food from First Kitchen for lunch, much less admit that it was mostly things from the dessert menu.

She also asks if Matori wants to add his clothes to the laundry pile, very certain that he’ll be sitting at her table again the next day. Matori hesitates at first and is a little embarrassed, but lets himself get talked into agreeing. He hasn’t been home in a while, but even with a day off coming up, if he can spend that day with Kusumoto instead, then that’s what he’ll do.

As the guest, Matori gets to take a bath first and lets the cool air from the AC soak into his skin while he waits for Kusumoto to finish his. Matori has a plan in mind for tonight and really hopes that he doesn’t fall asleep before he can use it.

He cracks an eye open when he hears Kusumoto pad into the room, watches as Kusumoto pauses. Matori’s spread himself out on the bed instead of the spare futon and makes no indication that he’s going to move. Quite honestly, Matori has no intention of moving. At least, that’s the plan.

“Um... That’s my bed.”

“Yes, it is.”

“I’m not sleeping on the floor.”

“Then don’t.”

To Matori, the meaning of his words is clear, but then he remembers that Kusumoto is still sixteen. He has a split second to wonder if maybe he should be worried about being physically pushed off the bed before Kusumoto’s already on top of him and they’re wrestling for control. Slightly unexpected, but Matori’s game. Wrestling may not have been a part of the plan, but Matori’s really not going to complain about the opportunity to get his hands on Kusumoto.

It takes a bit, so by the time Matori finally gets Kusumoto pinned to the bed under him, he’s very aware of where they’re touching. Matori bites his lip.

The plan for tonight, really, was to just get Kusumoto to let him sleep in the bed next to him, but when he leans down to capture Kusumoto’s lips, the plan starts to blur. Sure, they’ve made out before, even heavily, but this is the first time Kusumoto is under him, arching into his touch and Matori has to fight to keep his brain functioning.

Kusumoto is four years younger and, as far as Matori knows, hasn’t been with anyone before. Matori hasn’t been with a ton of people, but enough to know that he wants more. They’ve never talked about it before and even without asking, Matori knows that they’ll have to take it slow. He really likes Kusumoto. The last thing he wants to do is scare him away.

Maybe some of his internal conflict is reflected in the kiss because Kusumoto pulls back a little and asks what’s wrong. Matori shakes his head and forces himself to focus. First things first. “I’m not sleeping on the spare futon.”

Kusumoto’s forehead creases and he tilts his head a little. “But I don’t wanna sleep on the floor either.”

“Good. That’s settled then.”

There’s a pause of silence, but then Kusumoto smiles and goes, “OH,” and nods his head.

Well, that was easy, Matori thinks, but is brought back to his earlier conflict when Kusumoto then continues with, “Just sleep right?”

Matori doesn’t say anything at first, trying to get his brain to stop thinking about how good the heat coming off of Kusumoto’s skin feels. He tries to sort the right words out, but then gives up and says, “How do I say ‘for now, yes, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want more,’ without sounding like a total ass?”

He looks at Kusumoto, worried about how he’ll respond, but then relief washes over him when Kusumoto rests his hands on Matori’s waist.

“‘For now’ is fine. I’m not exactly sure how the ‘more’ works, but maybe someday we can try?”

Matori swallows and nods slowly. “We’ll take it slow. There’s no rush. I don’t want for you to feel like you have to do anything you’re not ready for... I can wait until you want to, too.”

Kusumoto smiles and Matori can’t help but lean down to kiss him. He rolls them onto their sides so that he doesn’t have to hold himself up anymore and pauses. “Is it really okay for me to sleep here?”

Instead of answering, Kusumoto just tangles their legs together and snuggles a little bit closer, never one for words. Matori just laughs, wrapping his arms around Kusumoto’s shoulders more securely.

“Then here is where I’m staying.”
