I saw the midnight show of Sin City tonight. Seven years ago I told a friend that I hoped there would never be a Sin City movie because no one could ever do it right. Well holy shit, they did it right

that really bugs me about american film making. What the hell is so wrong with the human body? or sex for that matter?

Of course I agree. But the Alba thing, I'm sure was part of the deal to get her in the movie since I don't think she does nudity. It felt like more of a business descision than a censorship one. And as for the Yellow Bastard, seeing his dick would have just been gross. So in his case something really is wrong with the human body. But that would have been the point! Hmm...I'm torn on the issue.

There's still plenty of gratuitous nudity in the rest of the movie.

And I would like to point out that the human body is a lumbering hunk of smelly meat. Sex is just plain silly.

in general you are right though. Funny how we painters so often paint greek gods, while the true state of the human animal is far more humble. i am glad to hear they did not edit out all nudity, I misunderstood your first post.

i do not know where the limits should be set, but i do know that often the european edit for films seem less awkward around the subject of sex and succeed in telling the story unembarrassed.

Sex is most decidedly silly.

My take on how nudity is (generally) approached in different areas of cinema:

Asian: "People get naked. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn't. Not really of any specific interest."

European: "Ooh-la-la. Aren't these naked bodies sexy? How delicious."

American: "Hey! Hey! Look! They're naked! Holy shit! They're naked! Wowie!"
