Brief synopsis

Chapter 3

Last day of the Gaudy. Miss Lydgate is drowning in typefaces and really really needs the invention of WYSIWYG word processing for which she will have to wait another 60 years. Num - Benigne (er.. I only have the latest NEL paperback handy and it says Benign. Wasn't it Benigne?)

I don't have my NEL copy to hand, unfortunately, but I remember it as being "benigne" in that.

How long could you live with 22 snotty hankies up your sleeves without noticing?

I think about this every time someone pulls out a hankie. I have vague memories of my mom carrying one and me using it. Ew.

If you did read it in order, expecting it to be a Lord Peter Wimsey novel, did it bother you that Peter only turns up in Chapter 4 and then promptly disappears again?

I was a bit put out that he was absent in the beginning. I like it best when they're playing off each other.
