I definitely agree that he was far more comfortable with Alt!Liv. You mentioned he was always on guard with our Olivia, and I couldn't agree more, but I think that solely lies on the fact that Olivia is so withdrawn, has all these emotional barriers. You don't open up to someone like that because the chances are, they won't open up to you. And that's leaving yourself in a vulnerable position

Hi!! Just hopped on over from the Fringe comm to put my two cents in. I've been baffled by all the Peter hate as well. I felt just as bad for him, if not worse in some ways, for the fact that he not only was a victim but also has to be the one to tell Olivia the truth when he knows it will break her heart.
Olivia kisses him and gets him to come back to this world - for her.
This is the thing that makes me really feel like Peter had a somewhat legitimate reason for not wondering why she was so much more open once they came back. Had this not happened and then they came back and she jumped him like she did, it should have set off all the warning bells. But it's not at all unreasonable for Peter to have assumed that her new openness with him was a natural progression of her finally having cracked and admitted her feelings for him.
Thank you. That is my point exactly. OF COURSE she will be acting a little different now that she came to terms with her feelings. Because, honestly- that had to be hard for Olivia. So, yeah, I can see where things are going to feel a little different in their relationship.
got to play Devil's Advocate here for a second. Yeah, rape's triggery (as I know from personal experience that I don't like to get into -- but it did lead me to study the phenomenon in more depth in college), but that doesn't make the comparison any less valid, imo. Bear with me for a second, please, because violence is NOT the defining characteristic of rape, lack of consent is

thank you. i think that, if the shoe were on the other foot and it was a female who'd been seduced by a shapeshifter or alternate, that no one would be too busy hating to realize "hey, coercion!!!"
then again, i'm one of those annoying feminists who thinks that equality means admitting that we have the same weaknesses and vulnerabilities in addition to having the same strengths *shrugs*
I think that what drove Peter into this state of blindness that he couldn't see Altlivia for who she was is because she was a happier version of Olivia. He wants so much to see her happy and free of the burdens she carries that when he saw a happier version of her, he thought she might've decided to drop that weight. And he chose to believe what Altlivia said in that regard. To my mind, he can't stand seeing how sad Olivia is (and has been) throughout the show.
Or maybe I just describe how *I* see Olivia, lol. I don't know yet, but I'll go down with my theory, right now it makes me happy. Luckily I trust the showrunners to do the right thing, they seem so engaged in saving the show this season, I highly doubt they'd screw up their relationship, of all things. I'm hopefull! :)
ok. SO, I'm at work right now, so I'll have to come back later and get into this. 'Cause I love a little fandom discussion. Especially with so much emotion--which just goes to prove how real these characters are to us
