I don't hate Peter, either. I hadn't looked at it from a rape perspective, to be honest, but I think that's a little over the top ( ... )

Completely and utterly agreed with your assessment. All along I was joking about how Peter was thinking with the wrong head but all along if you look at how he behaves with altolivia when he is worried-scared, hugging her and all the little touches such as nuzzling and kissing her head which is all the tiny ways you show someone you care or them. You know that it is not going to end good. And it doesn't- he basically gets a phonecall,(kissing alt!Olivia on the head for the millionth time )and then is robbed of all security and peace of mind ( ... )

saw your post on the Fringe comm and came on over.

I don't feel any sort of hate towards Peter whatsoever! He was betrayed, used, and while I hadn't thought of it that way...yes, raped, by Alt!Livia. Could he have twigged earlier and 'checked' (as a previous poster mentioned)? Yes...but I think he was happy just to be with her, that he always found a reason to dismiss the tiny differences.

I actually felt that Olivia's reaction was a bit unfair to Peter - for her to not even recognize the pain he must be in. Obviously, her reaction is coming from a place of hurt....but I do feel like she was so inside her own head and not open to his perspective.

I think the dynamic is facinating, and real kudos to the Fringe writers for brining us along to this amazing place in the relationship of these characters.

total agreement here (imagine that). I know a thing about fracked up rape scenarios (as poor Will can attest) and that's exactly what poor Peter underwent. I won't get into stats on blaming the victim, but poor Peter deserves a greater degree of sympathy than he generally receives. I've pointed it out to people in the past and they generally just blink and go "Oh..." and then shut their mouths about the poor man's idiocy. I mean, honestly, if the season had been presented to viewers in a different way without those eps taking place in the alt!verse and without us seeing her being in contact with Walternate, would any of us have noticed that it wasn't her? Of course not. So how should poor Peter? *pets him*

Yeah, I think he's going to end up taking a bullet or something similar before it's all said and done (and we should totally thread that some time). It'll take something big to make Olivia see the big picture *pets her*
