I emphathized with Ennis as he reacted to Rick reflexively pushing his beer away. I remember the look of panic that flashed on the face of a co-worker with whom I was sharing a soda when I told him that I'd spent the weekend helping clear out the apartment of a friend who had died of AIDS. Gay automatically meant disease in a lot of people's minds back then, the fear and ignorance was so great.
I laughed at the image of the brick-like car phone. I used to wonder if people I saw using them while waiting at a traffic light were just pretending to take a call in order to show off.
David is wise to make Ennis prove himself a second time -- I'm sure Ennis assumed that one date was all it would take to get things back on track (or back where they used to be). But good for him for insisting on a goodbye kiss.
I sure wouldn't mind reading about the Fourth of July party at Christmas.
