Chapter 16

Jack’s world

At least Jack was past those doubts that it was worth it.

The end of his physical life had come so unexpectedly and in such confusion. The truck had pulled up only a few moments after he realized that the flat tire hadn’t been accidental. He’d fought like hell, hit one of them in the mouth hard and kicked another in the crotch, he knew; ( Read more... )

Yeah, Jack wanted at least one chapter! It did seem to make sense, as everything in the story eventually loops back to the metaphysical realm where the "subplot" is.

I just read all the chapters in one go and I can't tell you enough how impressed and overwhelmed I am by your story. It's absolutely wonderful and I love every bit of it. I was really surprised by David's offer but of course I'm dying for Ennis to take him up on his offer.

I'm really looking forward to new chapters. Thank you SO much for this wonderful story :)

I like this visit to Jack's world, it has reassured me that he is not having a bad time of waiting for Ennis.

So is that Randall? I saw your reply to someone else who asked who it was, but was still confused because I wasn't sure with which part of her comment you were agreeing. I thought it was Randall because of him saying "that didn't go the way we expected" but further interaction made me wonder. I don't understand why Nathan would have said that if it was him instead. *confused* And I don't understand the bit about them not splitting up either.

Well, there are a some hints scattered around earlier, such as Ennis remembering during the wedding night that he and Jack had known each other a long time and Jack relating that he and Ennis had planned to accomplish some specific things beforehand. Plus Ennis' feeling of familiarity when he first meets David, and Jack's friend asking him to take care of "both of them," with Jack's reminiscenses afterward about other times he and Ennis have shared with each other. A lot of the underlying plot here is based on a reincarnation theme, with Ennis and Jack having close friends in addition to being soul mates. Not something everyone personally believes, I know, but then the story is fiction to begin with.

It looked like you read several chapters at once. Thanks for sticking with it!

I read this back in September and read your chapters as you posted, but with gaps between chapters (and this applies to every fic i read) i just forget what is going on eventually and either give up, reread or continue with some indifference. There's not many I reread!

Anyway, it's late here and it may be that which is confusing me with the interaction between jack and the friend. Their conversation just doesn't seem to fit any one person, and for a distracted moment I got the impresssion from your reply that it was Ennis he was talking to!

I think I will just have to sit in the corner with the dunce hat on because I presume it is Nathan up there with him, yet I just can't get my head round that and their conversation. :)

Well, it's my first attempt at metaphysical fiction, too.....
