Professor Nick Cutter was surrounded. Slowly, they came closer. Hungry, greedy for his flesh. Sweat ran down his forehead. Smelling him and his fear made them even more wild.
In a fiery attack one of them had managed to grasp him by his left arm. Only the tearing of his jacket sleeve kept him out of their clutches.
That beast withdrew with his prize but the others crept still closer.
By now his tee-shirt was ripped, showing a large piece of his skin.
He had tried to flee but the experienced hunters had cut off his retreat every time.
Desperate, Nick Cutter stood with his back pressed to a wall. Would this really be the end?
Suddenly Jenny Lewis stormed in, armed with something what looked like a billiard cue. Fearlessly, she forced her way through the pack, hitting out at some of them as they snapped at her.
Finally she reached Cutter and threw herself in front of him.
"Hands off!" she cried. "He's mine."
And astonishingly it worked. Growling, the mob stopped and watched them carefully.
Confident of her victory Jenny turned to Cutter.
"Damn it, Nick, I told you! Never go alone into a male strip club.
Come on, now! Abby and Connor have found the Anomaly in the pub next door."
