Lester spooned up the last piece of pudding and held it out to Nick.
"Thanks to your nocturnal visit, the doctor has finally agreed to let me get out of this hell hole as long someone stays with me," he declared, pleased. "The nurse said she will make sure everything is ready so I can leave this evening if I scrape my plate. Come on, Nick, please help me out here. I'm already full."
Nick regarded the unidentifiable lump on the spoon sceptically and finally sucked it into his mouth.
"Now you see why I have to get home. This food will only make me really sick," Lester said amused as Nick struggled to swallow the unappetising mass.
"By the way, the doctor wants to have a word with you how to handle me during my convalescence."
The clone could see Lester wasn't happy to be excluded from that conversation but at least he seemed to have accepted that he would need help at home.
Nick started to talk about mundane things and finally mentioned the latest Anomaly and the trouble they would have faced without Jenny Lewis assistance.
Before James could get agitated Nick cuddled him and ran his fingers trough his lover's hair whilst he whispered soothing words.
"Who is treating who like a pet now?" Lester teased but enjoyed the tender loving care.
Lester's car which Nick had used the night before, still stood in the car park of the hospital and Lester intended to drive it home.
He had to prove to himself that he still could manage at least that. To need help with dressing, simple things like fastening the buttons of his shirt or tying his shoelaces had been a heavy blow to his self esteem. So he ignored all counter arguments from the nurse and Danny.
Finally, Danny Quinn was so annoyed he told his boss he could go and kill himself but he should at least give Nick the chance to live. Lester looked at the clone who stood silently, worry etched into his face but still determined to stay with him no matter what, and suddenly saw reason.
The ex-police officer filed that information away for future use as Lester climbed onto the passenger seat and Nick took his place on the back seat.
After reaching their destination, the quiet side street in front of Lester's flat, Danny watched, grinning, how Nick tried to support Lester, who in turn tried to shove him away, adamant that he could walk without help.
Danny still hadn't talked with Lester about his idea regarding Christine Johnson but a few more days certainly wouldn't matter. He could speak with him when Lester came back to work. He was sure it wouldn't take long before the bureaucrat showed up at the ARC again.
"I''m not an invalid. So stop fussing," Lester huffed, iritated.
"I only want to help you save your strength. The doctor said you still need a lot of rest."
Nick led James into the master bedroom and shut the curtains.
"Besides, you have to get well quickly so you can fuck me. I haven't forgotten your promise," he remarked.
Lester gulped and sank down on his bed. "You're right. I should get some rest. I can't even dress myself, let alone fuck you."
"Soon, James. I will make sure you make a speedy recovery."
The clone kneeled down before the bed and started to open Lester's shirt, button by button.
"And when you're ready to take me you can even use the gun if you want."
Nick smiled when he felt James' heartbeat quicken under his hands and ran his fingers gently through the patch of dark hair peaking out of the half-opened shirt.
"I need you, Nick," Lester whispered, his breath puffing out in heavy pants. "I want to feel you come inside me."
"The doctor said I shouldn't."
"Fuck the doctor."
Lester wiggled out of his trousers and got rid of the rest of his clothes with Nick's help.
Nick watched in fascination as James' lay down on the bed, his knees drawn up and his feet firmly planted on the mattress, and licked his lips.
Lester's semi-erected cock was slowly rising up under the clone's heated look and his whole body started to tingle.
"Then take me this way," Lester begged. "Gently."
Nick fetched the lube out of the bedside cabinet. It was still unused. Normally he didn't need to bother preparing James very much. A little spittle had always been enough. James liked the rough handling and the pain.
But now Nick took special care to make it a pleasant experience for his lover until James couldn't stand it any longer and pulled he clone on top of him.
"Now!" James ordered.
Nick positioned himself and slid carefully inside.
James groaned as Nick was going out of his way to make it maddeningly slow until he was finally buried up to the balls in his lover's body. Every movement was so tender it set James' nerve pathways on fire and turned his synapses to mush.
"Can you come this way?" the clone gasped as he felt his own release drawing closer.
James whimpered and Nick knew it wasn't enough.
"Hush, it's all right," he told him and bent down to his chest, softly licking the hot skin between Lester's shoulder blade and nipple.
He pulled nearly out and shoved inside hard whilst he snatched some skin between his teeth and bit firmly.
It was enough to push them both over the edge. Nick felt his lover's cock, still trapped between her bodies, explode and wet his skin with hot semen whilst he released himself in James.
"Sorry," James panted. "I only wanted it gently but I couldn't... I need something more when I'm bottoming."
"Hush, forget that. I liked biting you."
"I'm a bad influence on you."
"That's not true. You're the best thing that could happen to me," Nick declared seriously.
"You're delusional."
With a grin on his face, Nick cleaned them both up and then snuggled close to James.
"Sleep now, the doctor said you need rest. We shouldn't even have done this before you'd had some more sleep."
"I needed the sex more than the sleep," Lester replied but obediently closed his eyes. "Thank you, Nick. Thank you for everything."
"You're welcome. Now sleep."
Some days later Nick and Lester walked into the ARC together and were sincerely welcomed by the people. Only Danny wasn't present, he was too busy observing Christine Johnson's headquarters again.
Nick sat down beside Connor who was gazing at the artefact.
"The professor gave it to me. It's important, Nick. He told me to continue his work but I don't know if I can."
It was the first time Connor had addressed the clone personally.
He always had been reserved when Nick had been around. Even Abby who had put herself out for the clone but otherwise had kept her distance, had mellowed out since Nick had worked in the bio-science lab.
Nick had accepted their reservations. Abby and Connor had known Professor Cutter the longest, after all. But, especially for Connor, it must have been even worse.
"I miss him, " Connor whispered.
The clone nodded in understanding. "I wish I'd had the chance to get to know him better."
"I was with him during the last minutes of his life. It still hurts. Sometimes you look at me the same way Cutter did and I remember that I will never see him again."
"I can't replace him nor do I want to try to do that. But I'm here for you if you need a friend."
Connor raised his head and peered into the clone's eyes, seeing nothing but honesty there.
"Nick, why are you here? Danny told me he and Lester have pulled some strings to provide you with papers and everything else needed to start a life on your own. But you have stayed. Why?"
"It's because most of my family is here. Besides I'm responsible for Cutter's death. He died because of me. I can't just walk away from that responsibility."
"But he was still alive after the bomb had exploded. You didn't kill him. That was Helen."
"That's right but Cutter ran back to rescue Helen. Yet that was my job. She created me and I should have rescued her. But I didn't even try. I just stayed put and waited for my death. If I had been with Helen I could have prevented the shot. Helen didn't originally intend to kill him. She must have been totally confused by the explosion. So when it comes down to it, Cutter died for me. Now I'll live for him."
Connor bit his lips. In an irrational way, the clone's word made sense. "And what's with Lester?" he asked softly.
"Lester understands. He's the only one who really can. James gives me the strength to go on and the courage to live. He's my saviour."
