AN: Happy Birthday, Nietie!
"By the way, I love you," Stephen said.
Grimacing, he shook his head. That just sounded too shallow.
"I love you, Tom," he whispered.
Even worse. He wasn't a shy virgin.
"I love you," Stephen said to his mirror image finally with the right amount of emphasis.
"Nice to know," a voice suddenly sounded from behind, startling Stephen as much that he knocked his arm on the sink.
"Bloody hell, Cutter, do you have to scare me like that? I thought you were Tom."
"Isn't he the man those words are meant for or have you finally fallen for my charms?"
"That's not very funny," Stephen grumped.
"My, we are cheerful today. Have you had a domestic with your lover?"
"My, we are noisy today. Don't you have work to do?"
Stephen leaned against the sink and crossed his arms over his chest, determined to wait it out until Cutter gave up.
But Cutter seemed to have plenty of time. He braced himself against the wall and continued to watch Stephen.
After six minutes under his friend's scruntinising look Stephen gave up.
"If you have to know, Tom complained I never tell him that I love him."
"And? Is he right?"
"Of course not. I always say it back to him if he tells me."
"How do you do it?"
"Pardon?"
"What do you answer if he tells you what he feels for you?"
"I usually say 'Me too.' What else should I say?"
"How about saying the whole sentence?"
"Saying the same words back sounds silly."
"If I remember right, silliness and love go hand in hand. Apparently Ryan needs to hear the three little words so do him a favour and just say them. You were doing fine when I came in and it sounded anything but silly."
"Maybe you are right. The next opportunity I get I will tell him."
"Stephen? Are you in there?" Ryan queried from outside.
"It seems you'll get the chance sooner than you were expecting," Cutter said with a smirk. Then he called, "Come in, Ryan , he's here and he has something important to tell you."
"Cutter! Stop! Not in the washroom."
But it was already too late. Ryan was hesitantly opening the door so Stephen took a deep breath and just at the moment Ryan was stepping into the washroom he announced loudly and clearly, "I love you, Tom."
The expression of surprise on Ryan's face turned quickly to one of righteous joy. Then with a smirk he answered, "Me too."
Whilst Ryan was busy kissing the scowl from Stephen's lips, Cutter was still holding his sides from laughing.
