"What the fuck," Jenny cursed in an unladylike manner. She'd just spotted a video on YouTube that was raising her hackles.

The user Madjack claimed it was a short view into the future, showing strange creatures that he could have easily created with a good graphics programme, as most of the commenters alleged.

But Jenny's instinct told her otherwise. She had no doubt that the footage was real. Whoever this Madjack was had had access to an anomaly into the future.

She quickly dismissed the thought that Helen was now using the internet to cause havoc. The short description under the video, bristling with mistakes, pointed to a far younger person of a low educational level.

Two well-placed calls later, Jenny knew that Madjack's indeed was named Jack, although the stated username Harkness was most certainly a fake to disguise his true identity. But the details of age, sex and current location Madjack had given away in a gaming forum had set off something in her memory. Madjack seemed to live at the same place Abby and Connor did. That Abby in fact had a teenage brother named Jack was doubtless not a coincidence.

Jenny's rational mind told her to keep out of the whole affair. She had left the ARC and the Anomaly Project weeks ago with the intention never to return.

But if Jack Maitland was publishing secret videos on the internet she couldn't just close her eyes to the matter. She owed Lester at least a phone call to inform him about the security breach.

Jenny walked through the double doors and was greeted with the familiar sight of the ADD. Nothing had really changed at the ARC. There was still the same equipment and there was still the same danger of finding an early end by a prehistoric creature or a monster from the future. She could easily imagine the last year had never happened and Cutter and Stephen would walk down the ramp any moment.

There it was again, the painful constricting of her heart as soon as she thought of Cutter. She had hoped leaving the project would help her come to terms with his death. Instead it had only brought forth more nightmares.

Suddenly Jenny felt Danny's eyes on her from above, sparkling with fire as he sent her one of his trademark grins. Connor waved enthusiastically until Abby and Sarah gave him a little nudge and Lester greeted her with a curt nod before he returned to his office. They had all abandoned their work to gather at the railing to welcome her.

With a small smile, Jenny set foot on the ramp and strode up to meet her former colleagues, surprised by the  feeling of immense peace and inner lightness spreading throughout her body as she passed the office she'd occupied before her resignation.

How could she have been so blind not to realise how badly she had missed doing something of importance, where she had been really needed?

Within a week, Jenny was back in the anomaly business. Making up a tale for the press to cover up the visit of a curious Iguanodon in a beauty parlour  in the morning and sitting crouched with Danny and Connor behind a car a few hours later as a predator with an appetite for Iguanodon steak prowled along the street was now nothing but daily routine again.

Still, as the Iguanodon, now safe from the sedated predator, marched happily towards the anomaly, Jenny could have sworn it was smirking at her in a way resembling the man who had done everything to protect these impressive creatures of the past.

At that moment Jenny knew that she was in exactly the place she should be. Together with her friends, she would continue the legacy of Professor Nick Cutter.
