heh heh, sorry.... I feel a special attachment to Syria. Know a few of the British embassy staff there, and at the British Council too (which in the current climate has shut down). I'd even love to go and visit there again one day...

So these remarks about night vision goggles I find offensive. For a start, what's the big deal? Besides, the border between Syria and Iraq has been closed since forever, seriously. Syria has been trying to improve its relations with America, despite its issues with Israel (regarding the Golan Heights). Admitedly its got a long way to go, but to the amazement of other UN states, it voted in favour of resoltion of 1441.

I also admit it's got a long way to go on addressing Human rights...
