Yes I am horrible with my puns. No they really don't make any sense. I'm just lame like that. But enjoy reading the sweetest couple in the Fandomly.
The Cure of Laughter
Exams were tiring. Cure hated how it kept dragging her away from her home here and caused her to lock herself up to study. She missed her fandomly.
‘It’s okay Cure. There’s only a week left. You can do it.’ She reassured herself and managed a smile. After that week was done she was free to be with all her fandomly here. It definitely was making her feel better and determined to work hard on her exams.
When she got to her room she noticed that the guard dog they had gotten wasn’t making any sound like he usually did when she was returning. Mik must have been inside already, playing with the dog. That typically was the reason. She was happy that she’d at least still be able to see her roommate through all this studying. As she checked the handle of the door she noticed that it was unlocked; Mik had be to inside. “Hi, Rommie/Mik~!” She greeted happily as she opened the door of the room, however it wasn’t Mik inside.
“H-hi Cure.”
Karoline looked up from the dog that was currently lying on his back on the ground, her dark hair falling in front of her face that it was difficult to see the shy smile she supplied in greeting. She slowly raised her hand though and shifted her fingers up and down as a wave.
It was very surprising to see her there. The door had been locked before she and Mik left this morning. Cure was so sure of it she would have even betted on it. There was a slight frown and she puffed her cheeks a little in annoyance; there was no safe place from the Curses living in this mansion. “How did you get in here? I’m sure the door was locked before Mik and me left.”
“It was un-l-locked when I came. And I-I saw your little d-doggy was here alone, so I th-thought I could keep h-him some company.”
At being mentioned, the German Shepherd barked, wanting the attention of her hand scratching his stomach like she had before. Smile widening, she complied and resumed petting the dog. For a vicious guard dog, at this moment he appeared so harmless with his half dozed eyes and tongue sticking out of his mouth it was easy to doubt whether he could hurt a fly.
That scene was definitely adorable and Cure did want to join in. Except as long as Karoline was there she thought it was best to keep her distance. Although the frown she had did lighten. “Oh, so why were you here?”
She was usually soft spoken that it was easy to not hear her, and this was one moment where Karoline’s reply had been so quiet that nothing of her response was audible. Cure had this feeling that if this were a cartoon, she’d have one of those big single anime sweat drops. “I didn’t really catch that…”
“I-I was looking for Seme.”
For a second, Cure had been about to ask why the other had thought Richard would be here, however she kept her mouth shut. She didn’t need to ask anymore, it was obvious he came to this floor for both Mik and Talon. It wouldn’t have even surprised her if he somehow had something to do with this bedroom’s door being unlocked. Of course she didn’t know if he was capable of picking locks or had some unknown power for it, but she thought it’d seem like something he’d want to know how to do.
“But you can see he’s not here.”
“I-I know…”
The older girl stopped pampering the dog as she had been and lowered her head. Even if her face couldn’t be seen, Cure knew she must have been upset. A sense of pity came upon her and against her better judgement she was slowly making her way over to Karoline. Maybe if she could just do something to cheer her up…
Before she had begun to think of a way to help, Karoline was already continuing as if she were prompted. “He doesn’t kn-know I know, but he’s with th-that other woman.” As soon as she was speaking about this “other woman” her voice sounded stronger and steadier. “She’s always tempting him and taking him away from me.” She fisted her hands and narrowed her eyes, glaring at nothing but in her mind she could see that little seductress taunting her. “Why can’t she leave him alone? He’s happy with me. He t-told me so himself.” That instant she stopped speaking of that “other woman” her tone became weak and her glare disappeared.
Having taken a seat on the ground while that rant had gone on, Cure could see clearly the expressions on Karoline’s face that were always hidden by hair. Her eyes appeared glassy; was she about to cry? Cure hoped not, she hated seeing others cry. “It’ll be alright…”
She shook her head and closed her eyes. “No it w-won’t!”
No longer being pampered, the German Shepherd sat up in attention, ears raised. Someone was passing the room so it got up and began barking at the door. It made Cure glance towards the door she hadn’t properly closed, but she hadn’t been in the mood now to check on what the dog was barking at. It was most likely to be someone from another floor visiting one of the people in the rooms nearby. Besides, she had something else more important to deal with now.
‘She really is upset over that jerk… I guess it wouldn’t hurt to give her a hug.’ The Curse definitely looked like she needed it, and it wasn’t as if anyone would see this happen.
Shuffling forward, Cure reached her arms forward until they were around Karoline. “Um… it’s okay. I’m sure things will get better.”
At first the hug was awkward as she wasn’t trying to get too close to the other. However, Karoline had no sooner rested her head against Cure’s shoulder, effectively getting rid of any distance she was trying to keep up in this hug. It startled her but in the end she only sighed - there was no way she was going to try back away from someone this upset in a hug.
She heard a sob coming from the female in her arms and it her insides feel hollow. How was she meant to make Karoline feel better? She didn’t know what she was meant to say to help. If only her roommate were here to help her find someone who was better at these things.
“I-is there something wrong w-with me?”
If it weren’t that Karoline’s head was on her shoulder and her mouth was so close to her ear, Cure expected that she wouldn’t have heard that normally. Especially not with the dog barking. “Shush, Frost. Come here!” Frost growled at the door but did reluctantly head over to Cure after he was called. As he sat down beside her, albeit staring at door, prepared to pounce at an intruder, she was relieved that it was easier for her to think without that loud barking.
“No, there’s nothing wrong with you. Why would you think that?”
“No one l-likes me here. I-I’m always being forgotten a-and ignored. When I t-try to m-make friends, I get told off f-for it.”
“I’m sure there’s someone here that does like you.”
She was looking up from Cure’s shoulder now, shaking her head. “You d-don’t like me.”
Biting her bottom lip, Cure wasn’t sure of how to respond to that. If she told her that she didn’t want her around, it’d only make her more upset. Yet if she said she did like her, then she’d only bother her more. Neither was an outcome Cure wanted.
A part of her mind told her to ignore the statement, however with Karoline looking expectantly at her with puffy red eyes, it felt too hard to. That look seemed to be dragging an answer from Cure, against all better judgement. “That’s not completely true… I-” She winced; it was painful to say. She wanted to change the topic. “I know, why don’t we talk about something that’ll make you happy?”
Karoline only blinked. That topic change hadn’t made things worse and she wasn’t pressing on about that answer. Cure mentally congratulated herself for getting out of that situation without hurting the other.
“I-I don’t know. What w-would we talk about?”
“What’s something that you like?”
“Seme.”
“Something else. What about a hobby or fandom you’re in?”
There was a moment of silence. Karoline didn’t know what to say. Her main interest had always been her boyfriend so she’d honestly had never thought about what she did outside of making him happy. Nothing else really seemed to be anywhere near as important as that.
When there hadn’t been any reply, Cure started to get a little nervous. She hoped that didn’t bring up a bad memory or made her feel worse. As seconds that dragged on like minutes went by, she slowly inched her arms back, breaking the hug. Maybe she really did say something wrong. Now she was withdrawing her hands to her chest, covering one hand in the other. She turned towards Frost, using him as an excuse to avert her gaze.
Finally, after mulling on the topic for almost five minutes, Karoline peered up at the other. She was using the sleeves of the overly large jacket she wore to wipe her eyes. “Um… sorry, I d-don’t really know. I-I don’t think I have a-any of those.”
Cure turned back to her, completely stunned. “You don’t? But everyone should have something they’re interested in.”
“I-I’ve never thought about i-it. Seme has n-never told me what they were b-before.”
“He doesn’t need to tell you what hobbies you can have.”
Despite that she didn’t say anything, it was evident by Karoline’s expression that the answer was “yes, he does”. There was a crinkle in Cure’s brow and nose, not forming a complete frown. She’d always thought Richard was mean for how he ignored Karoline to flirt with other girls, however, this was the first time she noticed how very dependent she was on him. ‘Does he even realise that?’ If he did, it only made her opinion of the treatment of his girlfriend worse.
Expression softening, she tried to forget that for now and focus on cheering Karoline up. “What about animals? You like animals.”
“Y-yeah.” There seemed to be a small smile forming on her face now, forgetting about everything else. “Speaking of… y-your doggy is very cute.”
“Frost?” Cure looked at the dog, which now spun around at the mention of his name, thinking he had been called. “I’ve not heard many people call him that.” Granted, he was likely to bite those people as well.
“He seems f-friendly and s-sweet.”
More words she’d never heard others use on Frost before. He’d gotten up now, nudging at her side for attention. At first Cure was only smiling, except then he nudged her in a particular ticklish spot that elicited a giggle. The sound had perked Karoline up. She’d never really heard Cure laugh like that.
“A-are you ticklish?”
“No, not really. I just- eep, Karoline!”
It didn’t matter on whether that had been the truth or a lie, Karoline had decided she wanted to try tickling Cure herself. The girl shrieked before laughter came out of her mouth. That laughter was cute - she wanted to hear more of it. Leaning closer she tickled other spots on Cure’s body, trying to see what caused her to laugh most. “Sorry.”
However, somehow through her own laughter, Cure could manage to keep her eyes open long enough to see Karoline’s expression. Her smile was wide, something that she’d never seen on the shy female. This seemed to be taking her mind off Richard, which was a good thing. Of course that didn’t mean she was just going to let herself be tickled so easily. She reached out, tickling Karoline back at whatever body parts she could reach. Fortunately she was successful in finding the right spot as here was soon another shriek of laughter and surprise.
Forgetting exactly the depressed mood one of them was in, they both were too absorbed in trying to tickle the other. Neither one would stop, no matter how much they were laughing themselves from the sensation. It was only until both were out of breath and their sides hurt too much that they had to stop.
Cure collapsed back on the floor, panting with a huge smile. Karoline moved to lie besides Cure, keeping on her side. Although her own breathing was heavy, she watched the other’s face carefully.
“Do you feel better now?”
There wasn’t an answer but Karoline really did feel better. It seemed so simple to just be here and laugh with Cure. If only this moment could last forever.
“Karoline?”
Not having gotten a single response, Cure had turned to face Karoline to make sure she was alright. That was when she was caught in a kiss. Karoline had taken the opportunity to give her a quick peck on the lips. Yet when she realised what she had done her face went beet red and she was quickly getting up. “I’m s-so s-sorry!” Before she knew it, Karoline was already rushing out of the room in embarrassment of being so forward.
Meanwhile, Cure still hadn’t moved. It had all gone so fast that she had to replay the moment in her mind multiple times before it finally got to her that she’d just been kissed. Now she was blushing too.
This was probably the only time she was grateful that her roommate had to come home late.
