It was renewed against all industry logic (as much as that word can apply to the inner workings of network television). That's how good it is. But it needs more viewers. It will follow "Gilmore Girls," which gets better ratings, but that's no guarantee. So do me a favor: Rent, check out, or buy
season one on DVD. Then get your hands on the season two DVDs as soon as they come out on
August 22.
Then tell all your friends (especially if they live in Nielsen households, or if you really like them a lot). And get ready for season three (September 19).
Forget everything you've ever heard about this show. Remember that its fans include
Kevin Smith,
Joss Whedon, and yours truly (only one of whom has not yet guest starred on VM... ahem). It's not Nancy Drew redux. It's noir, set in deceptively sunny Neptune, California. Come for
the cute, sexy, talented star. Stay for her amazing acting (and just about everyone else's), the dialogue, the double entendre, the
wicked soundtrack,
the excellent recaps. But whatever you do, please stay. And get lots of friends to do the same. Please. (No, I'm not begging. Well, okay, maybe a little.)
If you don't like it, I'll buy you a fortune cookie.
