weekend update

Lovely weekend - Saturday included Fry Crawl, which was an ill-fated attempt to zero in on the best french fry in Chicago.  Sadly, the first two places didn't open until late, and the line outside Hot Doug's took about an hour (thank goodness we had warm blankets in the car!)  Still, we did get french fries cooked in duck fat, and had a great time

They are lovely things. They are still french fries, mind you - they don't have a unique taste or anything like that - but they are very, very good french fries.

Mike and I tried the 'triple-truffle fries' over at Frank N Dawgs, and we liked them a bit better than the duckfat ones.. also, FND didn't have the line-around-the-block that Hot Doug's has. Definitely worth trying as far as the encased-meats emporiums in town goes...
