I've been saving your other pic posts for a time when I can sit and really look through them (tomorrow?), but this one I read right away.

It brought tears to my eyes. I have never been and will one day, but thank you for posting this so those of us who have not been there can see and experience it...because you are right everyone needs to.

You're very welcome. I fear many of my readers will be put off at the idea of viewing the pics, I'm glad you weren't one of them.

I visited a concentration camp and an extermination camp as a school trip in 1980. I was 12. I think the sooner people see it, the better.

Did you see the spectacles and gold fillings and pouches made of human skin etc? That was the worst.

I didn't see any of those on display, that sounds horrid!

I am not opposed to children seeing such a place, but I am not sure it would have had the impact on me quite like it did if I had seen it at age 12. Though it may have shaped my life to be something completely different.

I think it's different for Europeans. We lived and grew up in the places where these things happened and had evidence of it all around us. There were concrete bunkers in the fields around where I grew up, and we could find spent ammo in the fields. Every year or two another plane would be dug up from a deep hole to send some remains home. An old disused airfield near the farm where I grew up was instrumental in the Battle of Britain, and was later used as a German PoW camp ( ... )
