3. Character Information II
Age/Appearance: 18 years old. This alternate version of Ichigo is humanoid, except for a few specific differences; he has long black talons on his hands and feet, ruffs of crimson fur around his neck, wrists and ankles, long and sharp canine fangs, and a long, reptilian tail, tipped in wavy black markings. His skin is bone white and covered in very fine, but hard, scales on his dorsal side (back, tops of arms and legs, back of neck, etc). Another important feature is the softball sized hole straight through his chest, with black rays radiating outward from it. Two of the rays come up his neck and over his eyes. His eyes are fairly strange as well, having sclera as black as ink and golden irises. His hair is bright orange and fluffy, as it always was in his human days. Ichigo is 5'10", average, but well muscled from his fighting lifestyle. Additionally, he can enter a more violent "berserker" mode. In this form, his eyes are far less human looking and have slitted pupils, all of his teeth become sharp and pointed and remnants of his
horned mask form on the top of his head (usually only the horns and the crown of the mask form).
The above form is completely spiritual, that is to say, it is like a ghost. Most people cannot see him in this form. To rectify this, he has a Gigai (fake body), which Ichigo can inhabit in order to better interact in the living world. His gigai looks like his non-AU self; an 18 year old Japanese boy with no outstanding features except his bright orange, spiky hair and golden eyes.
History:
Wiki summary of Ichigo's history. This version of Ichigo is a fanmade AU, and his history diverges from the canon right after the timeskip in chapter 424. The branching point and the story from there on out can be found in my journal
here.
Personality: The image that Ichigo puts up is very different from his true self and feelings. Even though his body has been changed significantly from canon, his overall personality has not.
Outwardly, Ichigo is a punk. He gets into fights (though less frequently than before) over silly stuff (such as his hair color) and he acts very tough to keep others away. He puts up a front of aloofness and teenage apathy, trying to, above all, stay cool and collected. He accomplishes this by keeping his face set in a permanent scowl most of the time. He is also hot-headed and outspoken, unable to turn down any challenge presented to him. He is cold to those he doesn't know, but surprisingly warm to those who he cares about. He is an extremely hard worker, and never falls behind on his school work, most likely in order to dispel any thoughts that he is JUST a punk. Additionally, like any good teenager, Ichigo has problems with authority and refuses to respect those older than him JUST because they are older. He shows this disregard for authority by calling his dad, Shinigami captains and even the Captain-Commander himself by nicknames or by given names. Of course, all of this coldness and aloofness is a front for a much more empathetic, sensitive soul.
What Ichigo's true self is focused on, completely absorbed with, is protecting others. This obsession with protecting his friends and family most likely came about when his mother died when Ichigo was a young boy, and Ichigo could do nothing to save her. Everything he does, he does for others. He is often chided by his enemies for never fighting for himself, but only fighting to save others. But that is what Ichigo is all about. When his friends are injured, he will see to it they are healed. When they are sad or lonely, he comforts them. When they are down and need a kick in the pants, Ichigo is more than happy to deliver. His friends and family, those he cares about, are the center of his world and the center of his being.
Much of his personality comes out during fights. Ichigo is both extremely honorable, and interested in revenge. He desires fair fights above all, but will never hesitate to taunt his opponents or get revenge on them for earlier transgressions (again, usually against his friends). You cut off his friends' arm? He'll cut off yours. But if he cuts off your arm, he'll ask you to do the same. That's just how he is. He is possessed of a strong desire to win, and a powerful resolve. His resolve is rarely shaken, but when it is, his energy levels and fighting ability are strongly dampened. He is not prone to bouts of depression, but occasionally enters into them, and the effects are usually awful.
Humorously, Ichigo is a total prude when it comes to women. He becomes easily flustered when confronted with large breasts, be they covered or not, a fact that many of his large-busted companions tease him about. They will sometimes press his head into their bosoms, which pretty much results in Ichigo's brain shutting down entirely.
Since his Hollowfication, Ichigo has become, strangely enough, a little less aloof (but not much). He is more willing to have meaningless conversations about normal life, probably to take his mind off of what he has become. But when his mutated spiritual form is shown, he covers it up as much as possible with a large hooded jacket and loose pants. He is self-conscious about his new appearance, and will usually hide and try to change the subject if someone other than his closest circle of friends mentions it. Additionally, his Hollowfication results in the amplification of his animal instincts and carnal desires. While these can include sex, they are more likely to include a desire to destroy and kill, and to eat. Hollows, after all, are creatures of constant pain and hunger and seek to fill their emptiness with the souls of humans. Ichigo does everything in his power to suppress these urges which completely go against his personal creed.
Sexual Preferences/Orientation: As previously stated, Ichigo has some major issues with what he perceives as overly sexualized figures, that is to say, huge boobs scare the piss out of him. He is a huge prude and gets easily flustered and embarrassed when he has to be naked or when other people around him are. He sees masturbation as a necessity and not a pleasure. Were he to ever actually get into a relationship, he would be monogamous and highly focused on the more romantic aspects of it versus the erotic. Of course, with his Hollow instincts in full swing, sex could become just another form of fighting; hard, rough and a challenge, a battle that has to be won. As far as sexuality is concerned, Ichigo is probably about a 2 or 3 on the Kinsey scale; he would be mostly interested in (small-breasted, plz) women, but would not be completely opposed to having a homosexual relationship (though outwardly he would deny it until the cows come home).
Powers: Ichigo's overall power level is only 1/3 of what it was at the time of defeating Aizen, putting him at a similar level with a Menos or low level Adjuchas Hollow. So, shounen badass, but not nearly as strong as he could be.
Reishi Manipulation: Allows Ichigo to stand "midair" by collecting spirit particles under his claws. Also allows him to use the Hollow technique Sonído, which can be used to move quickly as if teleporting.
Cero: A Hollow technique that condenses spiritual pressure into a small point and then fires it as a ray. Ichigo's cero is bright red and is focused at the tip of his claws, from his mouth, or between his horns, if they are present.
Hierro: Not true Hierro, as it is an Arrancar-only technique, but Ichigo can use his spiritual power to protect his skin from blows.
Regeneration: Possibly Ichigo's most developed Hollow skill. Injuries and cuts heal instantaneously; bones crack back into place and entire limbs can regrow. Illness is no longer an issue. The only things he cannot heal are repeated and unrelenting damage (regeneration threshold reached), beheading or massive internal organ damage. Cuts from a zanpakutou take longer to heal.
Reiryoku Sword: Ichigo no longer has his zanpakutou, Zangetsu, but he can form a sword from his spiritual energy. This sword resembles a normal katana in shape, but is pure black with red glow, like his reiatsu.
Getsuga Tenshou Claws: Not a "true" Getsuga Tenshou since that technique can only be used with Zangetsu, but similar. Ichigo cloaks his claws in black and red energy and either holds it there to increase the power of his swipes or fires it off in crescent-shaped blasts. About 1/3 as powerful as a Getsuga Tenshou.
Fighting Technique: Even though he CAN summon a sword for use, Ichigo rarely uses it. He grew up fighting with his fists, after all, and he continues to do so. His street-fighting skills are further amplified by his claws and his tail. The tail is long and very muscular, strong enough to grab and throw an adult human. He'll also uses objects around him to his advantage.
Reason for playing: Ichigo is very fun for me to play because of the interesting dynamic he presents between the way he acts and the way he actually feels. This dichotomy is increased by the alternate storyline I have written. His changed appearance leads to a lot of "outer appearance vs. inner truth" type situations, which I am extremely fond of. The City of Sin will lead to a lot of character development for him, as it will force him to contend with the insidious, monstrous urges his Hollow form presents, without being able to completely ignore them.
5. Samples
First-Person: [[The person on the other end of the communicator clears his throat, like he's having a bit of an issue thinking of what he wants to say. Finally, he manages to get something out]]
Uh... so... I think I'm kind of lost. The last thing I remember, I was walking down to the corner store to get juice for Rukia. The next thing I knew, the sun had set. It definitely does not take me this long to walk the four blocks to the convenience store, and Karakura Town this is... definitely not. [[a confused, grumbly growl. The user is starting to sound frustrated]] My name is Kurosaki Ichigo, and I'd really like to know where I am, and how I can get back to where I came from. I have important stuff to do, stuff that I didn't expect to be put on hold due to weird Twilight Zone walks! Plus, Rukia's gonna kill me if she doesn't get her juice.
Third-Person: ”Iiiii-chiiii-goooooooo~”. A voice calls out to him from the other side of his bedroom door, along with a soft knock.
Great, the “tame” Hollow thinks to himself, closing his microbiology textbook with the loud snapping noise that always accompanied huge books being slammed shut, I know exactly what this is about. He grumbles to himself and gets up from his desk, straightening out his clothes with clawed hands and opens the door a smidge.
And just as he had expected, there was his incredibly short housemate, Kuchiki Rukia, staring up at him under her jet-black hair with big, overly shiny purple eyes. She’s giving him that look. That “I want something and you’re going to do get it for me” look. Ichigo looks right down at her with an annoyed scowl placed firmly on his features. Rukia seemes unfazed.
“What is it is now, Rukia? I’m doing homework,” he says in the most intimidating voice he can muster.
She just beams up at him and shoves an empty juice box in his face, affecting her best puppy eyed look, “We’re out! Can you pleeeaaase run down to the shop and get some more?”
“Why can’t you do it yourself?! I’m busy!”
“So am I, fool! Otherwise I wouldn’t be asking you! Now go get some more juice!”
Rukia, her business complete, saunters back down the hall to her own room. Ichigo sighs, and knows there’s no arguing with the Shinigami. He slips into his gigai, the false body feeling to him a bit like an itchy sweater. He checks the pockets of his jeans for his wallet (there it is) and his cellphone (other pocket, right there) and grabs a light jacket before heading out. He, of course, remembers to slam the door to show his displeasure with the whole ordeal.
The path to the convenience store is a well-worn one from his, Rukia and Kon’s apartment, one that Ichigo beats at least once every few days, usually for foolish errands like this. It’s almost dark, and the streetlights are already on. Ichigo walks, looking mostly at his feet and counting the cracks in the sidewalk. Something seems to compel him to keep walking, even when he knows he’s gone plenty far enough to reach the convenience store. His feet just keep moving of their own accord, and for some reason, Ichigo doesn’t seem to mind. The sky grows darker and the sun finally falls behind the horizon. Ichigo finally looks up from his feet, and notices something fairly important.
He’s not in Karakura Town any more. This city is much bigger, much darker. He turns around to look at the path he’d just taken, seeing nothing familiar, and a slight sense of panic rises in his gut.
What now?!
Third-Person #2: The dream began as so many dreams do; in medias res . Ichigo, in his true, monstrous form, is standing in a city square, surrounded on all sides by buildings that scraped the sky, a sky as black as ink. And yet, the scene was well lit, as if by some subterranean light source. Ichigo could clearly see the people on the ground, in muted colors, lying in pools of their own blood and their guts and chests ripped open, organs and bones splayed out in a scene straight out of a genocide. He can clearly see the blood on his claws, and he can taste the coppery flavor of the sanguine on his tongue. He can look around and see the people still standing around, looking empty and dead, yet still accusing him with their stares. He is the monster, and he’s also looking down on the scene from above. He can see everything, and see only what the creature he had become sees.
Then the dream-him leaps on to another bystander like the predatory animal it is, lips drawn back into a snarl and showing two rows of razor-edged teeth. Black talons are extended on both hands and feet, and they grip into the flesh of the zombie-like dream person, who doesn’t even scream. No, they don’t scream. They just look baffled, hurt and scared. The plain person gains some recognizable features as the monster sinks his fangs into its - her - neck, ripping out a mass of bloody, sinewy flesh. Her hair is long and auburn, decorated in flowery hairpins. Her grey eyes are wide with fear and she mouths a word, though no sound escapes her lips.
Why.
But the monster doesn’t stop, he just keeps ripping into her, her head dangling now only by the exposed spine. It claws into her chest, into her stomach, breaking ribs and pulling out lungs and heart and intestines, then shoving them into its hungry maw with a snarl. She is consumed, but her eyes still watch him, watch the watcher, though now her hair is medium length and jet-black, and the grey eyes had been replaced by purple ones. And the monster is still hungry. Always hungry, even as blood and bits of flesh hang from his bone white lips. Its hunger causing it pain, constant, undiluted pain. The creature howls, both in victory and in suffering, a sound layered and eerie, pained and triumphant all at once. The creature then looks to the watcher with bright, but dead, reptilian eyes.
Ichigo jerks straight up with an unformed scream on his lips, releasing itself only as gasping breaths as he claws at his sheets in a panic. His orange hair is stuck to his head and his body is slick with sweat. His heart is beating fit to leap straight out of the hole in his chest. It’s then that he notices that he’s salivating.
Kurosaki Ichigo doesn’t sleep any more that night.
**A NOTE**: Typically, only "spiritually aware" people will be able to see Ichigo when he is not in his gigai, though everyone with at least a little power will be able to tell there is something not quite right or human about him. For the purposes of this game, any character with super powers or magical ability will be able to see Ichigo in his soul form, with his clarity and tangibility depending on their level of ability. There will be a permissions post for this. Ichigo, despite not LIKING his true form very much, will likely be spending the majority of his free time in it, because the gigai is not very comfortable (something like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, or wearing a bit-too-small sweater).
