What's killing me is that this story has been through a million rewrites and has a large handful of people picking it apart for me over the years, and still...
It's really a wonder that anything gets published ever.

Hee, that's the sort of melodrama I was wasting away in! What helped though, is that I remembered that probably a good chunk of the books in the bookstores had to get that first round of heart-wrenching, soul-sucking humiliation (or probably should have). :))
