An odd idea, perhaps, and I don't know where it came from, but...
...if the dots of the leopard skin symbolise the stars in the sky (that bit I remember reading about, somewhere), then the funerary priests must wear them because the souls of the deceased ascend to the sky and become stars - but maybe Seshat wears the skin because She knows the number of those stars, and counts the days before each of us joins their company.
