Well, here goes! For those of you who keep up on my LJ, you know it's a rare event that I post. I'm in Watertown, at my new digs for the summer with Mareba. Wireless internet and a seemingly endless supply of electricity make this a pretty swank abode ( Read more... )

Hey there. It's Ellen.

I keep a real journal as well.. for the most part, I don't mind people knowing what's going on in my world and head, I use livejournal to chronicle my brain a lot, not to mention my life.. but there's something that sometimes unconsciously is slightly altered by the fact that you know you're writing for an audience. I don't write for audience in my paper journal at all, even subconsciously.

I had a very interesting conversation with a former teacher of mine about physics and the abstract, and the ties that it shares through everything.. it sort of relates back to some stuff in a book trilogy.. have you ever read His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman? I think you'd find it interesting.

Ha! His Dark Materials is one of my favorite stories of all time! I fell in love with it when The Golden Compass came out around the time I was in fifth grade, and I, the prodigious reader, veritably consumed it and waited in vast anticipation for the next two novels to arrive over the years.

I like to think of myself as a kind of a Lyra, though my environment is not half as fierce as hers. What an inspiring and provocative tale.

...... This is Katherine Rose, by the by. Hope you're well, Ellen!

I read The Golden Compass in middle school as well, and then The Subtle Knife.
I dearly wanted a daemon for awhile.

Over the years, I sort of forgot them, and The Amber Spyglass didn't come out til much after Subtle Knife. By then, I'd forgotten most of the details of the first two.. then a friend gave me the whole set this past Christmas. I wanted to read Amber Spyglass first, but I couldn't remember enough about the first two..so I devoured Golden Compass and am halfway through Subtle Knife, remembering why I loved them.

I definitely see some bits of Lyra in myself, she has a strong independence that I share, but at times she's more delicate than she seems. I like the construction of the characters, and the plot.. it really is a great tale.

Aye, I'm very well, grazie; hope you are also.

We have the summer ahead of us....... but it looks like you and I both have plenty of things to work on, to become, and to create!

It is pretty hectic.......... but I can't think of any way I'd rather be. As for the journalling, just like you say "Don't let words get in the way of communication," be sure not to let journalling get in the way of expressing your inner self effectively. Journals can be great outlets, or one can feel bound to them........... I'd love to read your insights about life, dear, but if the spirit doesn't move you to type away, don't drive yourself to it!

love love love to thee, as always.
