Seen any good movies lately?

I recently joined Netflix, something I didn't expect to do. Back in Philly, I lived close to 3-4 different video stores that had excellent selections and great hours. Manning and I have pretty much cleaned out our local video store of anything worth watching (it's super tiny) already, and the one a little further away isn't much better. And they ( Read more... )

My Netflix account is generally a mix of stupid Hollywood blockbusters and obscure indie films, so I'm not sure if adding me would help you, but it's lulafortune at g mail dot com if you'd like.

And I'm sure you're well-versed on Lars Von Trier, but just in case, have you seen The Five Obstructions? If not, I recommend.

Lars Von Trier doesn't ring any bells! Thanks for the idea.

Ooh! In that case, I recommend all his films, highly. Especially Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, and Breaking the Waves. Just be aware that they are all super-depressing.

ah, okay! I've seen Dancer in the Dark, but not the other films. I think Breaking the Waves was recommended to me once too. thanks!

well, one movie comes to mind. my friend saw a wim wenders movie which reminded me of how much i had really loved "until the end of the world" and how much i always have wanted to see it again.

and then i'm a big robert altman fan, so i'd say "shortcuts" though many people don't like it.

also, if you miss france, and haven't seen them, "jean de florette" and "manon de la source"; and also, "tous les matins du monde". all frenchy movies with one depardieu or another in them--but good, slow movies. i'm not on netflix, though, so i can't befriend you there.

hope you're having very cozy movie nights. paris misses you!

I love Wim Wenders! and I just put about 5 French movies on my list because I'm ALWAYS missing France. The French characters in No Mans Land were the best part of the movie. I loved hearing "let me explain you."

This Film Is Not Yet Rated is a great documentary talking about the nature of film ratings. I really enjoyed it.

I watch trashy movies. And tv shows.

Right now I'm watching Weeds. Love that.

Manning and I are watching Heroes! I'm really getting into it. And I'm dying to see the new Rome episodes, but I need to find someone with HBO.
