You're right, that is how it should have happened. Unfortunately (I need to get a life), I think that smile has been committed to memory. Where his face jerks into a smile of utter hope and happiness and his eyes crinkle up and then it falls just as quickly when he remembers his duty. But for one second, that smile is so beautiful.
