The book list continues

Projects eat up my reading time, so I haven't been reading all that much, but here's some of the current list. I'll stop when I hit 50 for the year. It's been a bit slow lately. I'm also still leaving out the books I read less than half way before giving up out of irritation, which would have added five or six more to the list so far this year, ( Read more... )

I actually read Mistborn recently myself, and am in the middle of book 2 now. I'll be interested to compare notes with you in more depth at some point.

Also, I love Peter Wimsey. Love, love, love, love, love.

Are you enjoying the second book? How long is it?

Lord Peter seems to have that effect on a lot of people. I am looking forward to the advancing relationship. :)

I think it is comparable in length to the first. So far, I'm not enjoying it quite as much as the first (now that I understand the way their world works, I'm not quite as intrigued by trying to figure things out...) and it feels a bit less focused than the first, but still enjoyable.

I get the feeling he had had generations of readers sighing over him (I quite like Bunter as well).

I quite enjoyed Mistborn as well. He has another book, Elantris, which is a stand-alone novel, that I think I like better. It's about as long as Mistborn, but since it's just one book instead of three...

Also, I keep debating whether or not I'm going to pick up Soulless. On one hand people keep recomending it to me, and on the other I'm strangely reluctant. It happens sometimes.

I thought soulless was a good book (thanate disagrees and hated it) but was disappointed because it had a promise of being a great book and it didn't keep it. I'd say to check out the sample you can read online and if that doesn't grab you, skip it.

Elric's especially bad since it's made mostly of short stories that all blend together, and then (starting around 1990 with Revenge of the Rose) of gigantic Eternal Champion metaplot mess.

(I most liked the two genuine Elric "novels," Elric of Melnibone and The Fortress of the Pearl. It's probably not coincidence that those are the ones with the least Stormbringer.)
