this. Jenai is bent on destroying Joshua, but Joshua refuses to fight him. Urara appears to retrieve Kenso's horn, and that's when the 'fight' turns ugly. Anyone who plans on visiting the cathedral should read this log so they know what they'll find.
Log;
It was about time, definitely about time. He was tired of having to wait for revenge. Revenge for Rizel, who hadn't deserved to die. All their problems were because of this boy, because of Pandemonium.
He grit his teeth in frustration, his senses thrown off some by the pure strangeness of the city. But there, on the top of the cathedral was the one he now referred to as Jackal, waiting as he should. He wasn't about to just let the boy have the upper hand. All pride aside, Chrono's horns, while he had none, were far more powerful then he could handle by going evenly against him.
So before he even got within sight, he was readying himself to attack, one hand on his bladed arm as he swung down at the tip of the cathedral, silent except for the flash of the blade as he swung at Joshua's head.
---
Joshua could sense the presence before he could see it, as he'd had his back turned to gaze thoughtfully at the metal cross protruding from the center of the cathedral. The noise was his first clue. It was different from the rest, and at first it made him stagger before looking up just in time to see the blade coming down.
It was the speed brought on by the horns that saved him then, immediately darting out of the way. Then he realized that with that much force, Jenai could easily create a crater in the roof. Rosiel wouldn't be pleased. Spinning, the boy shot his hand out, the power spreading from his fingertips invisible and only making itself known as the blade froze in midair. But he had only frozen the tip of the blade, instead he concentrated most of the power into the air just below the blade, time freezing there and keeping the blade still.
There was a cocky smirk as the stone color spread up from the tip, stopping before it could actually touch his arm. Jenai would have to rip the blade free if he wanted to continue his assault.
Really, though, Joshua didn't want to fight, and he held out a notepad with a note he'd written while waiting. He knew that Jenai couldn't see by normal means, considering a lack of actual eyes, but...he sure didn't act like a blind person. Hopefully he could read somehow.
'Not fighting you. Killing me won't do anything. Rizel's staying dead. I won't.'
---
He growled, suddenly finding himself stuck in place, his arm jammed in that bastards frozen air. He grabbed his elbow, yanked on it, glaring over his shoulder at him. "I cant read like this you idiot. There's a reason that Vid drove and I didn't." He growled at him, twisting and wrenching the blade free, listening to the snap of the metal giving way under the frozen air.
He cursed violently, teeth gritting together. His prized weapon, now he'd have to get it FIXED and god knew where he would be able to do that. He cursed again, whipping the battered blade at him. "Speak already dip-shit, I know you can!" He whirled forward, swinging again at the young man. "Come on, Jackal! FIGHT!"
---
Joshua didn't like his newest nickname. It had been his own fault for uttering it on the Network, but regardless, why did Jenai have to cling to it like that? The nickname brought back memories of the monster with the huge helmet and knife... That was a monster. Joshua wasn't!
He growled right back in irritation, though no sound actually escaped his lips as he jumped back, glaring at the Sinner. It would be so easy to just rip the bastard apart. He really didn't understand why Jenai disliked him so much. And why couldn't he read? He seemed to be able to 'see' people just fine... Maybe it was an aura reading thing.
For a moment, the boy considered grabbing Fiore, but no doubt Jenai would just manhandle her. She wouldn't fight him because Aion didn't want her to. Besides, she was probably out shopping, and Joshua did not want to go flying around the City to look for her. The noise was nearly unbearable today.
And that was what made him suddenly stagger and drop the notepad, reaching up to grip at his head with a shudder. A group of people were passing by the cathedral, chattering amongst themselves about regrets of the past, though some were actually laughing about it. What went on in their heads well that was a whole other story.
It was like a fog horn in his mind, and he suddenly squeezed his eyes shut from the pain.
---
Despite the way he spoke, Jenai wasn't stupid. The moment the youth stumbled backwards he lunged forward, swinging his arm like a paddle, and slamming it into his shoulder with enough force to send him flying.
And not in the good way.
He grinned to himself, wings snapping out as sweat dripped down his cheeks, from having to do this without any new astral to run off of. He'd have no problem if he had his damn horns, but they were locked in a pair of jewels, and the one he had taken from the goat thing hadn't even stuck when he put on his head. Instead it just hung from his hip as a keepsake.
Nothing about this damn city made him happy, especially having to sleep on a goddamn park bench because he didn't have a place to crash right now. Grumpy, hungry and tired, he grinned viciously down at the teenager, and hopped down from the roof, charging again at him. "Come on, Jackal, do you have a problem? Finding it hard to focus? Or are you just that PATHETIC!" He whirled the chipped blade at his head, grinning at those horns. Maybe he'd just keep them as a keepsake as well. His own little collection of city horns.
---
He had been so overwhelmed with the noise that he couldn't even concentrate on the fight that he didn't want to have. They were supposed to be allies. Aion wanted them to be allies. For the first time since he'd done the trade, Joshua regretted giving up his voice.
It was with a silent gasp that he was flung off the roof, wings quickly spreading out to flap and keep him in the air. The last thing he wanted was to land on the ground near that group of people. Why were they walking so slowly?
Face contorted into something resembling a snark, Joshua straightened and looked up at Jenai as he flew down right at him. That was when the horn dangling at his waist caught his eye. Faintly, he could remember a woman, mutilated by some unknown devil. She had looked strange to him then, with the hooves and horn and ears, but now as he recalled the memory, she was probably a devil just like Jenai.
Only...she had been nice. And grateful.
Suddenly, Joshua's eyes narrowed and he shot up to reach out and grab onto Jenai's arm with his hand, trembling as he kept it from coming down on himself. He was the one who had took her horn... For what? Did he think he could use it? Moron.
Joshua moved too quickly to be stopped, free hand darting to yank the horn free. Then, he ducked out of the way to move to the safety of the roof, where falling wouldn't hurt as much. Just in case.
Eyeing the twisted horn carefully, Joshua floated just above the cross, untying the string as if he wasn't in the middle of a life-or-death match.
---
Urara looked between the two figures in the air around the cathedral. Kenso had told her where to go, told her to look for the cross atop the building, but the rune demon had made no mention of flying people. She recognized only one of the floating bodies, the one she'd spoken to just moments ago on the network. He was holding Kenso's horn, fiddling with it. The rune mistress hadn't taken him saying that he would "toss it" to her so literally, but seeing as he was several feet overhead, he very well couldn't pass it off at that height, just as she couldn't join him up there and take it from his hands.
She ignored the other presence and raised her arm, hand held out and waiting for her demon's horn. "Can I have it back now~?"
---
The creature beneath him caught his attention for a moment, but the horn in Joshua's hands seemed far more distracting to the apostle. Without thinking twice, the demon growled, shooting up after him, and with a manic grin, pressed his boot down against his chest. He tucked his wings in and used his weight to push the far lighter blond down.
Directly onto the sharp point of the cross.
"Shoulda stayed focused, Shitbag." He chuckled to himself, fangs bared as he stomped down again, watching the blood ooze down the spike.
---
He could recognize the strange girl standing just outside the cathedral suddenly shouting to him. He had also spoken to her once before when he had still been a child... He hated those memories, as he had been weak, but she still seemed nice enough.
Completely ignoring Jenai, Joshua smiled and waved before yanking the string off of the horn. He had just been preparing to throw it to her when Jenai moved quickly, and then suddenly Joshua was knocked down.
The horn flew from his grip, bouncing against the roof of the cathedral before sliding and dropping down to the ground far below. Completely and utterly confused at why he was in so much pain, Joshua opened his mouth to try to mouth out a silent question, only for a coppery and thick fluid to bubble up and get in his way.
The Apostle choked on it and coughed, instantly realizing it was blood. His blood. Suddenly glazed blue eyes drifted down to see that he had been impaled right onto the metal cross, completely severing his spine. He couldn't even move, but the pain was utter and complete. He couldn't even scream, thanks to still being mute.
Instead, the boy just stared up at Jenai with wide and dazed eyes. Why did he hate him so much? Joshua hadn't even wanted to fight him. It was with a grimace and a tremble that Joshua tried to lift his hand, only for it to drop right back down. Both eyes drifted shut shortly after, and he stilled rather suddenly, head falling back and golden wings shimmering before disappearing with a blinding flash.
---
Urara had fought demons before. She'd dealt with demons, she'd sealed demons. She'd even had to deal with the occasional rowdy human before. But this- This was something different entirely.
In her few years as a rune mistress, she'd only seen such violence once, when she'd saved Kenso and became her mistress. But even then, it was violence between demons; inhuman forms with no compassion for anything, be it a rune mistress or a fellow demon. Urara wouldn't say that had been easy to watch, but it somehow seemed so much more difficult to stomach when it was a young boy being attacked, rather than a demon.
She watched the boy impaled on the cross, ignoring Kenso's horn as it hit the ground a few yards away. She didn't scream, didn't cry out, didn't run away, didn't do anything. She just watched.
---
Heh. He kicked the still body with a wide grin, and surveyed his work. Actually, he had thought about tearing him apart, but this was honestly very ironic. An Apostle, stuck to a cross over a cathedral.
He turned his face towards the woman down below them, eyes dropping to the horn and he spread his wings, heading down to retrieve his keepsake. "You have a problem, bitch?"
He landed, feet away from the horn, and stood lazily on one hip, pointing his busted blade at the girl.
---
Only the type to rush into things when she didn't have a blade pointed in her direction, Urara took a step back, weighing her options. She could either make a run for the horn and leave, or she could just leave without the horn. Urara knew Kenso would be angry with her if she got hurt trying the retrieve the horn, but she also knew that she could never forgive herself if she didn't make an effort to get it. She had a duty to both Kenso and Senza to be a good mistress, and she felt that just leaving a part of Kenso there, she was failing at her job.
Better to have tried for a rune demon's horn and lost than never to have tried at all was how the saying went, wasn't it? It was close enough, Urara decided, making a dash for the curl of bone on the ground. Once the had the horn securely in her hand, she turned to run. She hated to turn her back on anyone with a sharp object in their possession, but running backwards wouldn't get her away as quickly as running properly would. And getting away was what she wanted.
Urara threw a "Nope, no problem~!" over her shoulder, trying her best to ignore the boy's body still impaled on the cross. Kenso would never forgive her if she stopped to help him and got herself killed.
---
"OI!" He took a step forward to try and stop her. He wanted that HORN goddamn it. Instead he just paused, arching an eyebrow before glancing at the cathedral and the streets. No, It'd be better if he got out of here. No doubt the alarms were being raised at the moment.
He grinned and looked upwards at the body impaled on the cross, and saluted it with two fingers. "If you really start walking again, shitbag, I'll be back to do this all over again." He called, before laughing to himself, and shifting back into his 'human' form. He didn't have time to snag Chrono's horns if he wanted to get a safe distance away before any of his lackeys came after him. Despite having won the fight, he was exhausted, and needed to regain his energy.
Hurriedly, though while still retaining his lack of care, he stepped away from the cathedral and into the allyways, humming a jaunty tune.
