Well, that confirms my suspicion that Russ is getting stressed and running out of creative solutions.
I only hope that the pranksters will grow up and realize they're not doing anyone any favors by acting like 12-year-olds with a toddler's temper...
If there was one thing I learned from the Three in Thirty fiasco last year, it was that the only way to deal with admin was by acting like an adult who can handle yourself. If you go in with that pissy teenager attitude, they'll just ignore you.
This has got to be one of the most fucked up things I have ever heard about TAMS. Our idea of "pranking" was putting up posters protesting overly harsh decisions without RA approval... not smoke bombs and fire alarms. I gotta wonder how many of these people have actually tried to talk to Admin. Kilroy's got it dead on with this one.
lol this is so refreshing. It restores my respect for Russ. I feel a newfound faith in TAMS admin now that they've actually shown that they're not heartless people. This is so obvious when you talk to them, but sometimes their actions fail to reflect this. Hopefully this will restore faith in admin in most of the student body, and they'll wake up and become the mature teens we know them to truly be. Yey. :)
Hah, not heartless. Admin has already made it known that sinclair would kick out the entire senior class if that would give him a few more years of being able to run TAMS. Russ just got to play good cop this time because he is most charismatic. They are still treating us like children, trying to manipulate us with lies, threats, and promises of rewards to keep us complacent till they can be rid of us, hopefully making them look good in the process, with most of us going to good colleges so that more "children" will apply to their program. All this for the sake of their precious experiment and salaries, and with no interest in treating us like anything more than children to be led by the noses with threats of group punishments and promises of "rewards". They basically decided independently that they had made their point and decided they would cut the time in half to stop people from pulling any more alarms to get them to stop this shit(if alarms keep getting pulled, TAMS will end, and are they willing to risk their salaries?), and
( ... )
Attempting to understand the policies just doesn't work. Just think of it like rain or something: can't do anything about it, might as well just live with it. Here's an example:
Rules I broke: Posession of flammable/hazardous substances (unt housing policy) Abscence (community activites/wing meetings) Curfew Violation (up to 8 hours late) Going shoeless in a cafeteria (state law) Data Piracy (National copyright law)
Rules I got documented on: Pda (sitting cross-legged on a bed) Visitation (wrong turn off a staircase... whatever)
There you have it: TAMS has no sense of priorities. Just be blatant enough in your violations, and you win. It's only honest mistakes that get you demerits.
On a side note: I think Russ actually cares about the students, that's why they make him do the good cop routine all the time. Many of the others (coughkevincough) just enjoy the authoritarian exercise of power.
