so my GPA for this term was 3.8, and i don't know what that means, but it could have been better. next year i will TRY HARDER.

It means you have between an A- and an A average. It's good.

Basically if you got ALL As, your GPA would be 4.0.

GPA is Grade Point Average, basically each letter grade is assigned a point value (the actual point values used by your school are on page 3 of this PDF) Once your final grades are available, they add all the point values together, and then divide by the number of courses you took, to determine your overall awesome-ness. According to your school's chart, you are EXCELLENT.
